I knew it was a moth, didn't know what kind, so glad Nancy could help you with that! I lived in the midst of 17 acres of pine forest outside Rome, GA for a year or so. I saw bugs and other creepy things there I've never seen before nor since! Moths were exceptional, in many different and brilliant colors!
I know, lol, I did the same thing when I would see them. Then I saw even bigger and bigger moths. People at work laughed at me, shook their heads, "Northerner!" They said!
I have them in my yard, I guessed it was a moth, they rest and slip on the underside of the tree leaves.
They are dainty and pretty looking. I also have one that is orangey red, it looks like a cross between a dragon fly and a moth. It's smaller and faster than this one.

when I first saw it I thought it was a fishing fly. lol.
I wonder if fish would go for them if put on the hook??
