Today was a great day for heading to Atlanta and going to Zoo Atlanta. So Marianne R. and I met up today and set out to see the newest Panda and the newest exhibt, Boundless Budgies. The weather was great, sunny and in the low 80's.
If you are going to be visiting Atlanta, I highly suggest a visit to Zoo Atlanta.

Kat these are wonderful pictures of your trip to the zoo. I have never seen an oval shaped turtle before. What a great state you live in with so much to do. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
Wow, I felt like I was there! Awesome pictures Kat, thanks for sharing.
You took some fantastic shots on your trip to the zoo! Thanks for taking us along!
I love the Atlanta Zoo. It's truly fun for people of all ages. :)
Those were great! You can tell that Panda know's it's special! lol =)
great pictures Kat. I love the pandas.
You got some great shots. Nice photo essay!
It was a fun day at the zoo, but I am really tired. Maybe all those tick bites in TN did do something.
I haven't inspected all my pix other than to rotate them and trash the truely horrid captures. I can see your indoor panda shots have that glass glare line too. Thank goodness he went outdoors. I got my best shots of him there.
My best are of him outside also. I have one that is almost a duplicate of the one you posted tonight. The are both such sweet shots.
I had fun today. Hopefully it is not the tick bites but just the excitement of last weekend and the heat today.
Yay! Great-looking animals :) I particularly like the zebra, of course! ;)
The pandas are so cute. The only thing I diske snakes yackkkkkk!!! You had some great shots Kat. I know you had lots of fun. That is the way I feel when I go the children's zoo in New York. God willing, if it doesn't rain tomorrow I will go to the botanical garden to see if they have new flowers.
Fabulous photos! I love them all.
Kat, you two are getting some great shots on your trips, and we are benefiting from it. A great photo essay. You captured some real oddities.
Excellent photos Katherine!
I felt like I was right there with you!
Wonderful Photo Essay
I just love all these photos, what a wonderful zoo. The pandas of course are adorable, love the unique ducks, and of course the birds. Every animal is so beautiful.
Thanks so much for posting this to my group.
Nana, I thought about you when I saw the ducks. I have a couple of better shots than what I posted in this essay. I think you will like them.
You took great pictures as always. That second picture of the panda is just too cute!
The unidentified bird is a Kookaburra! Beautiful photo essay, Kat!
Thank you, graciously, for posting to Southern by Choice or Southern by the Grace of God!
Thank you Cathi! I was hoping someone could identify him/her for me.
This was an excellent photo essay. Thanks, Kat.
You have some wonderful photos Kat, and it really does look like the weather was nice. I love the panda shots.
Thank you so much for posting such wonderful photos of your adventure, Kat! I always enjoy your photo essays so much! The photographs are absolutely outstanding! I am going to go look at each one and really enjoy the zoo!
The best shots are yet to come Sandra. I held them back for individual posting.
Oh boy, I can't wait to see them! I just love your photos!
YOu did get some wonderful photos Katherine....and today was a beautiful day for the zoo.
(Though after being at other zoos, I don't think Atlanta's is all that good...The pandas are neat to see though)
Less than 20 years ago it was one of the top 10 worst zoo's in the country. It has come a long way but has limited space to expand, unlike many zoo's.
That's true. The Detroit Zoo has no where to expand either, since it's bordered by a highway (didn't use to be), an expensive residential area, and an 8 lane road.
I took Angela down to the Atlanta Zoo a year ago, and it was SO dirty. I know the animals will smell, but it was all garbage that was around. Quite a few of the displays didn't have any animals either. The bird show lasted all of 10 minutes and we only saw 3 different birds. We were disappointed.
I do wish I would have know you were going. I would have dropped off some quarters and pennies. We collect the pressed pennies, and we're missing a few from the zoo.
It wasn't dirty at all on our visit. I was impressed that as soon as an animal in the petting zoo "went" it was cleaned up immediately. The only area that smelled was the elephants but they were also cleaning that area while we were there.
Some of the animals go inside when it starts getting hot, the panda's do this so we went to that exhibit first. Xi Lan was quite active and even went outdoors to frolic.
I will be going again soon to take my daughter, I'll let you know when. Maybe you will think about joining us.
Great pictures! That turtle was oddly shaped. I love the kangaroo picture, do you happen to have a close up of one of those cute faces?
Unfortunately I don't. I could not get as close to them as I could some of the other animals.
Great shots sugar. I've been there, lovely zoo.
I love visiting zoos. This one has some interesting animals. The Pandas are awesome. I would love to see the kangaroos too. Great photo essay!
Fantastic photo essay! I really like the photo of the Ground Horbill, I've never seen anything like that before! Very neat! Your zoo looks great, our local zoo is awful so I'm very jealous!
Come visit Atlanta, Lisa. There is lots of stuff do to and see.
What great shots! A terrific photo essay. I'm going to the zoo next week, and I can only dream to get pics like yours.
Wonderful photos, Kat!

oooh how fun!
Oh I so love your photos! All of them! It really makes me want to go to a zoo. I haven't been to one in sooooooo many years.
Great photos Kat....I loved them all (except for that snake....HeeHeeHee! "I don't like spiders and snakes and that aint't what it takes to love me............")!!!! My fave has to be the elephants...I've loved elephants since I was a child!!
I love 'em all! I used to dream about being a zookeeper.
that looks like a nice zoo love your photos, the indianapolis zoo was a big let down, I was expecting a lot more there.
Wonderful pictures, Kat!! I loved the baby panda and the oval turtle!
You always go to the coolest places and take the greatest pictures. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Too cute. The Pandas are something else :) In my comment to Marianne on her post, I told her I'd never been to this zoo...but it looks awesome. Supposedly the one in Montgomery (which is closer to me) is awesome too. I'll have to check it out.
Your photos are incredible-I just love pandas!!
