While on the train to NYC this past Tuesday, I got a call that the meeting I was heading to was cancelled! As upset as I was (I was 10 minutes from Grand Central Station!), I decided to make the best of the situation.
I quickly called a friend to see if she could meet me for lunch, and she said "Sure!"
We wandered around the Holiday Fair at Grand Central, admiring all the beautiful jewelry and handicrafts. We stopped at a booth and bought a few colorful shiny bracelets. Then we found a display of handblown glass ornaments that just had to come home with us!
We ate a quick, but delicious, Italian lunch in the lower level food court. Then we took a short walk over to Bryant Park to see what their Holiday Shops had to offer. We were greeted by the Bryant Park Tree, which was beautifully adorned with gossamer green ribbons and many ornaments.
Music played beyond the tree, near the skating rink, so we sashayed over to where the crowd gathered. Much to our surprise, a band was rehearsing for the tree lighting later that evening. We stayed a while and listened to the Barenaked Ladies as they did their sound checks!
It was an exciting "only in New York" afternoon - great food, great shopping, and an impromptu concert!

Thanks for posting to Absolutely Everything Winter
And...I took the photos with my new new Blackberry Storm - not bad, eh?
The only problem was that I totally drained the battery after about 12 photos! Crazy!
Was in New York last Xmas. I miss the snow but it is warmer out here.
Have a Happy New year.
