There is a time in the early hours
when black sky gives way to morning gray.
The moon hangs low and silver in the horizon
and the brightest stars still glow.
At war with the rising sun,
fiercely determined to remain they battle on.
Slowly they wink out one by one
until all that is left behind is their memory.
We are birthed amongst family
who are like those stars.
They surround and guide us
lighting our way through childhood.
The unknown times when we learn,
practice, stumble, fail and succeed.
Like the morning sky as we grow
they begin to fade.
One by one they disappear from our lives,
shutting down when we need them most.
Some leave us early, others stay on
until our own time dwindles.
The brightest stars fight the strongest
still in the end the inevitable dawn comes.
They wink out, leaving memories in the sky,
even as we, ourselves, begin to fade.

With a little snip here, and a little snip there . . .
STANZA TWO becomes a perfect "26" STAR~Style Snippet . . .
Slowly they wink out one by one
until all that is left behind is their memory.
