Day 1 yesterday and early this morning - but due to some technical glitch I couldn't get it posted until this afternoon. So that was yesterday's journal (for August 12) and this is for August 13.
I think I made better food choices today, including a Boca burger for dinner (I couldn't resist) with fresh veggies and Green Goodness to drink. Green Goodness is a drink from Bolthouse Farms that contains fruit juices, vegetable juices, wheat grass juice, spirulina, and other good things. It even contains blue green algae that comes from the Klamath River - the river I live next to. I'm also a fan of Blue Goodness, which contains blueberries, blackberries, and elderberries along with other wonderful ingredients.

Here I am sitting in the shade next to the Klamath River at Savage Rapids
where Bob was prospecting a few years ago.
Again I resisted the breadsticks at work, but my co-worker, Jody, baked brownies and I promised to try one. I don't think it did much damage. I took a Chan Jade pizza home - that's what we call the vegetarian pizza. The Chan Jade pizza has mushrooms, olives, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes on it. I have a habit of getting one per week. It is a mini size - just for one person. I usually eat only two slices on Wednesday and I have the others for Thursday and Friday, my days off. Actually Bob usually eats all his mini pizza on Wednesday, then finishes mine up on Thursday or Friday.... so I rarely eat an entire mini pizza in one week. I know pizza isn't a great thing for a diet, but too much self-abnegation isn't good either as it encourages binging. I decided a long time ago to try to hold my pizza consumption down because it is a constant temptation on the job.
For breakfast before work I usually have a Clif Bar, which is a type of natural food energy bar made with a lot of organic ingredients. It has only 250 calories and is a quick, easy way for me to get some decent nutrition in the early mornings. On days when I don't work I sometimes have granola instead - with spring water instead of milk.
I'm not much into milk. I think it is better for baby cows than it is for human beings. But like I said yesterday - I do have a cheese addiction that I'd love to overcome. Tonight when I made my Boca burger I decided not to put cheese on it. That's a breakthrough as I always have, in the past. Guess what? It tasted just as good without it!
I'm still loving my new vitamins, and feel decently energetic.
I'm sorry to say I didn't do much in the way of exercise today unless you want to count 4+ hours on my feet while working at the pizza place. Something good about working on my feet all the time is that it has increased my stamina for when I do actually take walks. I noticed this a couple months ago when I walked to the campground across the river and back - a three mile walk. I used to take that walk daily, but now rarely do... but the cool thing was that I had no trouble with being tired out and the uphill climbs were easy. It could only be because I've been rushing about at the pizza place for months now trying to fill people's orders, clean, cook, and everything else we do there. On busy days like today the work is non-stop. Rushing is a virtue, for restaurant employees. The faster, the better.
Tonight is the start of my "weekend" which takes place on Thursday and Friday, as I said... and I'm looking forward to the time off. I'm planning to take the opportunity to make some changes in my life - namely, starting a realistic exercise program.
That's it for today. I congratulate everyone taking part in this Healthy Living Journal project and know that it will be the start of new and better habits for us all.
