A Peek at Autumn - it is coming to Michigan - Photoessay

We took a pontoon ride after dinner this evening and saw some early signs of autumn. Come along and see the colors around the lake.

 

A few signs of autumn on the west shore

It's very quiet this evening.

Almost entirely green, this tree sports one splash of autumn color.

This looks like the end of summer - a bittersweet time.

The willows at the launch are turning yellow.

It is still early and we can cling to summer just a bit longer.

Fall shows more along the road.

The beach is deserted.  The children have gone back to school.

Over the weekend, this place was filled with people swimming, people in boats and on jet skis.  Now, it's quiet and seems ready for the season change.

This tree is always the first to don its autumn attire.  It stands out in the crowd.

This looks like the Master has taken his paintbrush and applied light touches of color.

The burning bush has caught the spark of autumn and will soon turn red and burn.

 

I hope you've enjoyed our cruise around the lake.  I will be back soon with more photos. Autumn is my favorite season for taking pictures.  Nature provides so much beauty here in northern Michigan.

We didn't have enough of a summer for me, I'd much rather start it all over and do it again!!

I feel the same way, Joy! Our summer was chilly and disappointing. I do love the autumn colors, but I miss the warmth of summer. I don't even want to think about winter and snow yet.

I've seen the same thing happening here in New Hampshire. It's beautiful but so sad to see at the same time. It's been a lousy summer and I'm afraid we're in for a terrible winter. Those pictures are beautiful.

Farmers Almanac says it will be bitterly cold and dry here this winter. The National Weather Service offers a much more pleasing prediction. I am not looking forward to winter, but I love the autumn colors.

It's not unusual for a few maples to turn early. Most we saw were still very green.

Ahhh yes... Fall. I'm ready for each season, but I sure do hate leaves, once they have fallen!! I need to invent a tree bag, so the leaves will just fall straight down into them. Hmmm. Aww.. good idea, but it just wouldn't work. Oh well... nice try.

I like the idea of a tree bag, Dale! We have several oak trees and those leaves do not biodegrade quickly. We can burn leaves here, but it still involves a lot of raking.

Fantastic photo essay! I love it when the lake is like glass and the reflections are sharp. I've noticed a touch of fall in Georgia also, our Maples are starting to turn.

wow, what incredibly beautiful photos.....yes, fall is an incredible season.....I can't imagine living somewhere, where there are no colorful trees in the fall........our trees generally don't start changing colors till the end of September..........so very breathtaking to see all the magnificent colors...........especially around all the covered bridges (about an hour's drive from our house).
