When the bomb shattered the early April morning stillness in Oklahoma City, destruction and carnage were everywhere. One thing that remained standing however, was an American Elm Tree. This tree was dubbed the Survivour Tree by the rescue personnel.
The tree became part of the Murrah Building Memorial. Each spring when the tree puts on seed, they are collected and planted. When the seedlings grow enough to become a viable plant, they are given to muncipalities and other civic organiztions as a reminder of that day.
When picking up my daughter, after evening band practice, I noticed one had been planted at her high school. Grabbing my camera I took this photo. When looking at this picture, remember the lives lost that day.
