e large, green,
Key limes which predominate in the rest of the world, are smaller, yellower in color, seedy, sourer, and grow on thorny trees which are more
sensitive than any other citrus to cold weather.
As has been done with tomatoes, the flavor has been sacrificed for convenience and appearance. Key limes were grown commercially in southern Florida and the Florida key until 1926 when A hurricane wiped out the citrus crop They were replaced with Persian limes which now are considered Key limes. A true key lime is still a small thorny tree! There are homes in Florida in the keys that you can find them in the yards of...........they taste so ...perfect at least to me as I went to a friends yard and plucked them from the tree when young

Limes are native to Southeast Asia, and probably originated in Indonesia or Malaysia. They made their way to the eastern Mediterranean with the Arabs, and to the western Mediterranean, with returning Crusaders, and eventually to the West Indies.
The large, green, seedless limes found in your supermarket is the Persian or Tahiti Lime (Citrus latifolia) a hybrid developed in the early 20th century. The fruit is larger than the Key Lime, more resistant to disease and pests, and has a thicker rind. They are picked slightly immature, while they are still green in color

Columbus introduced citrus fruits there on his second voyage. These limes, used in most of the world, are what we call Key Limes turn yellow when fully ripe, and might be confused with lemons!
The Linden tree is CALLED but not a lime tree. It's leaves are used in Thai, Malaysian, and IndonesianThe Green Dryads (tree spirits)it is said were wed to the Linden trees!
in roman myths it is a symbol of conjugal love and fidelity
When they are dried the leaves from the Lindon tree can be used to make tea.
When the flowers go to seed they form small pods that contain l to 2 seeds each, these are clustered beneath large leafy wing bracts which act as parachutes as they carry the seeds to the ground. The fruits are woody and about the size of peas.
The leaves are heart-shaped, 4-6 inches long, 3-4 inches wide, dark green with extremely shiny undersides. When the wind blows, the leaf blades turn about revealing a glistening bright underside
During the flowering period, the people that manufacture perfumes use the heady scent for their products.
Lindon trees are one of bees favorite and when in full bloom they are usualy full of bees.
The honey harvested is a milky white!
90% of the Key limes you purchase in the supermarkets are acually grown in Mexico
Key limes now grow in Texas and California where they are called Mexican limes!!
There is an English tree nicknamed the lime tree...It is actually the Linden tree!!
some ferns are the perfect shade of green LIME
