My Favorites, My Gerbera Daisies (Photo Essay)

It was sometime in the early 90s when I developed a love of the Gerbera Daisy. A coworker had received a mixed color bouquet of them from a date. The bright colors all together in a big bunch reminded me of tie dye the way nature would interpret it. They've been my favorite flower ever since.

I've planted them off an on over the years and never had very good luck with them. Either too much sun or not enough. This year I decided to give them another chance after having such good luck with one that I picked up at Walmart of all places.

I have a total of 6 different Gerbera Daisy plants scattered around my gardens and potted flowers. Here's a macro sampling of some of them. These photos were taken the morning of 6/27 after a brief rain shower.

Those are really great photos! I think the white one was my favorite which is weird since the colors are so vibrant and intense. I hope they grow well for you this year!

They're one of my favorites too. We have some I planted a couple years ago that still come up every year in my flower garden, but the blooms never last long enough for me to take photos of. That would be Parker's fault. LOL Great shots here.

They are gorgeous! Like you, I've had issues with Gerbera daisies. There must be some trick to them that I don't get. I keep thinking they'll flourish and I'll have cut flowers all summer. I wish!

These are one of my favorites too. Great photo essay ~ you've a wonderful collection of colors. They are a perennial here on the California coast, but they still tend to be a little sparse (do they like extra fertilizer?) and a tad tempermental (i.e. the leaves look better on the ones that are water dripped v.s. the ones that are sprinkled). Nevertheless, when they bloom it is a celebration!

I love flowers, but I'm not a really big fan of these. I love the varieties of Shasta and Oxe-Eyed daisies, as well as Brown-Eyed Susans...but the colors of the Gerbera just haven't interested me for my gardens.
