Welcome to a North Carolina Pig Pickin' party!
Let us show you a little southern hospitality and how to have a good ol' time, North Carolina style!

First you need a head honcho to supervise.

Track down one boni-fied Hillbilly.

Send him out to hunt down a critter.

Hire a specially trained Critter Cooking Chef (also known as Cousin Stevie Head Pig #2).

Roast that critter all day long, until its nice, tender and juicy.

Don't forget to invite lots of friends and family!

Import one Country Western/Bluegrass band...all the way from Japan!

Yee Haw!

Smile, smile, smile!

Feel free to just, be yourself (no matter how silly you look)!
This is what happens when your country western band brings chop sticks to a pig pickin!

Vittles are served!

Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

Lol Moggy, It looks like it was fantastic. Really great.
Sue, it was tough since I took over 450 photos.
Awesome! Tell me more about this feast and the Japanese bluegrass band. It looks like a lot of fun, (and tasty as well!)
Sure John...come on down.
:) DS
The pig really wasn't hunted down by the Hillbilly, it just made for a silly photo since he had a big ol' shotgun. The pig was purchased from a local pig farmer. My parents throw several pig pickin's every summer and my dad is a real pro when it comes to preparing NC style BBQ. My cousin is his apprentice but has been helping for so long now he is almost a pro himself.
Its always a "hoot" as Kevin put it, and there always seems to be at least a few foreigners in attendance, that is due to the fact that my family spent a lot of time living overseas and made a ton of friends.
I love this article! I'm now totally craving BBQ, and would love to have been there! I will check out Surf & Turf, (ya gotta love it!)
I'm so jealous!
Next time we'll just have to drag you outta the city to join us Doug! I don't know if you'll find anything on Surf & Turf, the big wig is the Banjo player and he's not part of their band normally (at least that's the way I understood it) check out MerleFest though.
Jodie, I don't know about that group...can you leave me a link? I'm sure I'll have several more crazy party's to tell you about before the summer is over! We're just getting warmed up. ;-)
Thanks Lindy :)
They can be really huge, Karen.
Thanks for posting to All Photo Essays Here!
I'm featuring this in the group because it's funny and it made me laugh. : )
Victoria...lol, if you read down further in the comments...it was a pig, dad purchased it from a pig farmer, no one really went and shot a 'critter.' Not this time, anyway!
What were the sides?
Thanks Suze.
You know I guess my camera just aims itself at the men folk? lol...actually I have a ton of pics of the wimmin folk, but they always think they look horrible so I promised not to post them..men just don't care. Imagine that?
I could smell the pork. We have a radio station out here called KPIG. Americana roots music. They're pretty good except for the occasioanl banjo tune. THis made me think of them.
LOL Bret...I've never known anyone who was 'allergic' to banjo music...sounds like a serious 'personal' problem to me. ;-)
I love the name of that radio station! We need that here!
Thanks for posting to Let's Throw a Party!
Thank you JoAnne, glad I could share.
I bet it was fun in that podunk town Ang!
