The flight of stairs looked a bit intimidating, but we went up very slowly.

When we finally reached the ground again, I was very relieved and very proud at the same time. Although it sounded as if I was guiding my son up and down these stairs that were moving, it was in fact my son, who was guiding me.

I'll have to visit this one some day too...
Thanks for sharing it with us.
I understand about your reluctance - I have a tough time when we get to the top and I can't go right up to the railing and look down without swooning. I'm fine a step back from the railing - go figure.
You were a brave Mom indeed and yes I remember the times when my son guided me up every castle and tower in Germany.
This didnt show up in my feeds :-(
and jr, get used to it: our kids guide us a lot more than we do them :-)
Thanks for posting to my group All Photo Essays Here @ allphotoessays.gather.com!
Dana, you are so right about this. I walk for 1-3 hours several times a week, but this workout was definitely for different muscle groups than I usually use:) I guess I need to find some stairs to climb once in a while.
Karolyn, the stairs without railing is only to the very top of the lighthouse. I would not have dared go up, if it was this way all the way, and my son would not have been allowed either:) I have to say though, that when other people were walking up and down, the stairs were moving, and this was really uncomfortable. My son has been up in this light house once before with his uncles....I stayed at the bottom:)
I've never met a lighthouse in person before.
The stairwell with no railing actually looks as if it does have handholds - it's steep enough to grab onto those little pegs sticking up on the steps ahead of you, right?
Great pictures and thanks for taking us with you!
beautiful photos... thanks for sharing... gorgeous water...

I think walking up these stairs would have made me dizzy.
Thank you so much
I have always had a "thing" for lighthouses!
I would have done fine going up, but would have felt fear coming down. Aren't I strange?
Lovely article, lovely pictoral essay.:)
That water is so beautiful... I can't wait to go swimming in the ocean this summer.
There's a lighthouse where we go, too... I climb it on occasion :)
