Every year, my sister Fran vacations in Ogunquit, Maine at a beautiful Victorian Inn on the Marginal Way. She always rents the two units closest to the sea in Beachmere South and invites the whole family to stop in, spend a few days or a whole week. Every year we have a wonderful time "beaching it", going to art galleries, wandering through quaint shops, and revisiting some favorite places and finding new ones.

The Beachmere is quite a fancy place and is booked a year in advance. As a result, more then once, our vacation in Maine has been peppered with a hurricane. This year, Fran got a double dip...first Hurricane Bob when she moved in last week....and early this morn about 3 A.M. when the winds and rain of Hurricane Dan came into town.

Despite the two hurricanes, we did have several very nice days with clear skies and hot weather. After a good breakfast of toast and fruit, we might walk the Marginal Way, a coastal trail, down to the famed Perkin's Cove.....

Along the way we might see wild flowers....

or discover a "treasure" along the way.

Fran found this little pocketbook and shoes last Monday and hung it on the fence. This morn it was still there. Some poor Cinderella has lost her shoes....and will never get her Prince.

At Perkin's Cove, we might watch the fishing boats going out to sea.....
or have lobster for lunch at Barnicle Billy's.

By now, the tide is out and it's time to go sunbathing by the sea. There are small beaches by the Beachmere....but across the river (it's shallow during low tide) is the big public beach.

We just usually go to "First Beach", right in front of our place. This year we decided to make cairns by the sea.

After an hour in the sun, we are ready to take another walk down the Marginal Way to see the flowers at the Sparhawk ....another fancy resort.

Leaving the Sparhawk, we ambled down to a new gallery, The Barn, to see their new collection.
Of course you know how I love nudes...I found this headless body out in the gardens.

Then we walked over to the Ogunquit Museum of American Art to see their new Charles Woodbury pieces.

They don't allow any photos to be taken inside the museum. I tried my Gather "fib" but they didn't budge.

Coming home, we stopped at The Anchorage, another resort along the Marginal Way, to see the grounds.

Another day, early in the morn I got up real early and went over to take pictures at The Footbridge Beach....it was just after dawn so I got some really neat pictures without people.

Then I took a ride over to Kennebunkport. Several years ago I took Mom here to see Bush's estate.

Down the road from the Bushes, I found St. Ann's Episcopal Church and when I saw the sign "All welcome", I pulled into the parking lot and took a tour.

Heading home, I saw a sign that read "Rachel Carson's Wildlife Refuge so I stopped and took a hike through the woods, across some marshland down to the sea.

By now it was 12 noon and I had promised Fran I would be back so we could go to
a showing of John Lennon's artwork that was in Ogunquit for three days.

We did not have any of the hurricane inland and north, but...........I certainly don't envy those who suffer through them.
Have fun on your trip, see you when you get back. Spoke to Sis today.
The ride home from Maine was a bit scary...I saw many accidents.
I'm glad to see you stopped in at Barnacle Billy's; no stop in Perkins Cove is complete without it!
Would love to see pictures from the Lennon exhibit if you were able to snap any.
I almost didn't go to Ogunquit this year but then Fran called me Wednesday morn and said everyone was missin' me so I packed an over-nite bag thinking I would only go up for two days...of course, once I got there, I couldn't leave.
You should be writing for a travel magazine, Bob... you have fabulous photos and info!
I love that first picture with your shadow on the field of black-eyed-Susans! Also loved the breakfast shot of toast and fruit... ALL your photos are sooo remarkable in one way or another, I keep scrooling up and down to look at them over and over again!
I had a "late" breakfast that morning...got up at 5 and slipped out of the Beachmere before anyone was up and went wandering...course I left a note for Fran...and when I didn't show up for breakfast at the Inn (they serve between 8-10), she grabbed a few things for me to have when I got back knowing sometimes I get "lost" and forget to eat. I was famished when I arrived at 11....so nice having a big sister who knows me so well!
Love the photos.
Have a safe and wonderful trip to Australia. I can't wait to see the photos and read all about your visit with Magi.
