June 20th, the day before summer, and a weekend. It seems we've been stuck in a cool spot this year, with temperatures grunting to reach 82 all Spring. So when there is a major increase of sun to bring the meter up to 90's, beach people put on their smiles and happy faces, eager to flock to the sandy shore of Lake Michigan and soak up some much needed warmth.
Necessary chores are done by 7:00. Other projects on the list can be cast to the wind and wait their turn. When the meter in the sun reads such a beautiful number at 8:30 am, it's time to pack the cooler. There is no reason to waste such a nice day being inside. It beckons to hit the beach by 9am.
A walk along the shoreline spots this unusual well-worn log with lots of character and a mysterious history.

Odd to see on the beach, a maple tree helicopter seed finds enough moisture to begin to sprout. Doubtful it will survive in the sandy location.

A serious looking bicycle rider out by the pier for a morning ride.

Not all "Radio Flyer" wagons are shiny red and new. There is lots of character and perhaps many personal memories for the owner of this one.

BABY ON BOARD! Ideal weather and flat seas provided a perfect birthday present and first jet ski ride for this little one. Trust me, that particular machine will do 70+ mph!

The sun, sand and water bring out smiles at the beach. Kids will splash anytime, and seem immune to the 65 degree water. My snorkel will stay dry until the water gets up to 78-82. Lake Michigan is fresh water, and has no tides.

Being such a beautiful Saturday, it turned into an 11 hour beach day. That's the kind of summer fun we've been waiting for. Weekdays after work can usually squeeze in 4 hrs a day. The only bad thing were clouds on the horizon, which prevented a colorful water sunset at 8:15 pm. But there is always another day.
I think everyone is waiting for this camera to be dropped, and it accidentally clicks a picture of me.
Thanks for joining me at the beach today. Y'all are welcome to bring a chair and join the fun. It's an easy ride to Michigan City, Indiana.

whoa! 115 degrees at 8:30am ??? wow how hot did the rest of the day get?!
The beach shots are lovely , I love the old log
Don't know, but it was fabulous.
Very nice photo essay. A nice way to see other areas of the country avoiding the heat and crowds. Thanks for sharing.
Beach people avoid shopping on nice days like this.
New England seems to be having a fairly cool spring. Our temps have lingered in the low 70's or cooler with a few wrmer days here and there. I loved your photos but my favorite is the log. What an awesome picture that makes.
Thanks. It was quite worn from the water.
wow so kewl viewing pics now
Thank you.
Great photo essay.
Thanks for stopping.
yikes
Nice days are a real treat.
Lovely pictures. It's been on the cool side here the last 2 days. A high of 70 yesterday and I doubt it will make it out of the 60's today.
Thanks. I would be whining about your cool.
I loved the pic s but not that temperature and so early in the morning! I'll take the rain and the snow.
LOL, I hate snow but I'll even take snow over those temps. It's upper 90's and 59% humidity her and I'm freaking roasting.
We need it just to thaw out from icky winter.
65 degree water sounds wonderful to me right now! It is so hot and humid here the dogs don't even want to go outside unless they just have to.
Great photos and wonderful essay!
Thanks for viewing. Your low humidity would feel like AC to us.
Thanks for taking us with you! It was 40 degrees here this morning with new fresh snow on the mountain behind our house! It will probably remain cool and wet in the northern latitudes this year because of all the volcanic activity in Alaska this spring. That sulphur dioxide gas cloud which is still swirling in the upper atmosphere will probably continue to cool our weather in the northern states for quite some time. I, for one, am enjoying the cooler weather. It is a blessing since it is usually much hotter by this time of year.
Those comfy 90's have been reaching from Texas all the way to Canada, but missing us. We are begging for more.
Great capture of a beach day! I miss Lake Michigan. Where I live, the water is always in the fifties. Nevertheless, kids will jump and play in it. They just can't stay there long!
Thank you. Sometimes we wonder about kids sanity.
A very nice photo essay!!
Thanks for your viewing and comments.
Nice day at the beach.
Great shots... thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the trip to the Lake ,R B . Great photos .
Your visits to the beach are appreciated.
This looks like a wonderful lake and you did have perfect weather for a day spent in the water and on the beach. These are wonderful photos. I'm really surprised at the temperature.
Thank you. Beach people love a sunny warm summer.
While some people like being "refreshed", I'll wait a bit. That water is still like jumping into a pool of novacaine.
Great essay. Looks fun and relaxing. Me, I too, don't go in the water until the water is quite warm.
Great photo essay! I haven't yet been able to get to the beach!
