Yesterday when I got home from the hospital about four o'clock, Lena and Paul came over the house with Lena's brother Frank and the girls.
"Hey, let's go over to Snug Harbor and eat at Diana's place. Don't they have great fish, Bob?"
Diana and her husband Dan, whose a fisherman, own Snug Harbor Fish Company in Duxbury. This past year I had their son Danny in my kindergarten class. Snug Harbour sits on the Bay and the Marina is behind their building. It was a gorgeous late afternoon and Papa and I did not need to be persuaded.
Diana was extremely happy when we showed up and immediately showed Julia and Sage the lobsters in the tank. We tried to have a lobster race but that proved futile...at first they just sat there and then Moe started going backwards.

Being a warm evening, we decided to eat outside on the patio.

While we were looking at the menu, Diana brought out a plate with large shrimp. They were scrumptious.
A few minutes later, she brought out a large salad of spinach, yellow squash, and zucchini with a mango salsa sauce. What I find so strange is the fact that Julia and Sage will eat practically anything...raw shrimp and vegetables just go down the hatch.

"How about some oysters? These come from Duxbury Bay", Diana said as she came out with a large platter. Except for Papa and I, no one at the table had ever had raw oysters in the half shell. I wondered how this would go over.

First Paul tried one......

"Come on Lena, they are really good."

"How about you Sage?" said Lena.

"Papa, do I have to eat one?" said Julia. "I just want the shells."

After the appetizers, Paul and I had big plates of fried clams and Lena, Frank, and the girls had fish and chips.

And for dessert....did not Diana surprise us with a plate of eclairs. What an orgasm of a meal we had!

You should take Ian and Cam over to Snug Harbor....great feasting. The fish and shellfish is fresh out of the sea and all the rest is homemade right on site. Amazing place...one of the best eateries on the South Shore.
If you notice I'm going up instead of down to answer comments. Never did anything the right way! What do you mean...you don't like fried clams? That's my favorite food! Papa is like you...he loves raw oysters. Up till now we have only tasted oysters from the Wellfleet beds so we were pretty surprised that Duxbury has their own beds.
I love the picture of Paul! Right now I wish I could have an eclair for breakfast.
Come on over to Massachusetts and I'll bring you to Snug Harbor...you won't regret it.
I heard you might start working at Snug Harbor. Maybe I should get a summer job there. Just think all the clams I could eat!
Lena's haircut is really cute and will be cool for the summer.
I'm glad you like seafood...when you come to Mass., Papa and I will bring you over to Snug Harbor. As for the eclairs...don't worry about your waistline...I never have. One summer in Ireland I ate eclairs for breakfast everyday for three weeks.
The fish and chips are awesome...as for the French fries...they are probably the best I've ever eaten.
Everything looked so yummy (except for the oysters - never acquired a taste for them) but I can't eat any thing fried anymore because of my gluten intolerance. It's the breading - made from wheat flour. Oh, and I couldn't eat the yummy eclairs either but just looking at it all was a treat.
I love lobsters too...so succulent...but loads of work.
Never had steamed oysters...will have to try them.
You are welcome anytime when you are in the Boston area to hang out with me and go to Snug Harbor. Open invitation.
Wonderful Photo Essay Elizabeth!

We've eaten at Snug Harbor a few times and we love it!
Next time you are there, you should ask for the owner Diana and tell her about your role on Gather. Diana is on Gather.
We had a great time. The food was delicious.
We could have soooooo much fun here together! Know you would try anything.
My father said for a long time that it was the fertilizers that washed off into the water from the farmer's fields when we had rain and summer storms. He was a wise man. The bay has always been over fished and under estimated for its abundance...now...finally it is coming back. Loved your pictures.
It all looked delish, I've tried the oysters on the half shell and decided i'ts not my thing.
Lovely place and I can't get over how the girls just tried whatever came their way - amazing.
