Yesterday, after I posted my lizard photo essay I started dinner and while things were cooking I looked out back. I saw a cormorant's head. I thought he was in the water and ran to get the camera. I went very slowly outside to get a photo and boy was I pleasantly surprised! He was sunning him self and drying out his wings. I must admit, these are some of the best photos for me. I usually upload them and play them as a slide show, I was floored by how good they came out. He stayed like this for quite a while and didn't seem to mind that I was clicking away. Probably thought I was crazy.

Full screen this photo looks awesome. I think these birds are beautiful. He has green eyes.

I thought he was getting ready to fly away, but he was just opening his wings further.

So while the mushrooms and onions were burning, I was taking photos of the beautiful cormorant.
Dinner actually survived, but thank goodness I was cooking dinner or I may have been out there longer since he wasn't in any hurry to leave. It was my lucky day!
Canon PowerShot S3IS, I used the tele-converter 1.5x even though I was only about ten feet away, but he was down the hill.

We have cormorants here in Michigan too. The fishermen do not like them though.
Sure glad your hubby loves burnt mushrooms and onions! LOL

Marianne No I didn't feed him anything! I didn't want to chase him away. We switched to cracked corn BTW. We get 50lbs for $10.00 and the pellets were $9 for 3lb. The birds like the corn better too. Also Happy Birthday.

U wishing you laughter
Awesome ...!!!
Laurun - thanks. The young ones are not all black like this. I have a photo of a young one - the article that says "Do you know what this is" is an imature cormorant.
Yes, the world comes to a stop when there is a good photo opp!
