Tropical Flowers of Hawaii

I have seen some gorgeous posts by others on flowers in their area and it inspired me to share photos of those in my neck of the woods.

These are just a few I found in my photo files....I will share more later.

 

I realise Daylilies are not just tropical and grow in other areas, but here they bloom year'round!

I love the mix of colors!

The Mandevilla

A Bromeliad - we have several varieties

The Blue Ginger - one of many varieties of ginger blooms

Double ruffled Coral Hibiscus

White Datura

Double Yellow Hibiscus

Single Petal Ruffled Coral Hibiscus

One of the many varieties of Heliconia

Red and Green Obake Anthuriums - some of the many varieties of Anthuriums

Perekeet Heliconia - These grow wild all over the place.

Gorgeous! So pretty and colorful. FYI - Your Datura looks a lot like its close relative Brugmansia. I grow both and have purchased Datura labeled Brugmansia, but my datura flowers open upwards, the brugmansia down. Both beautiful by any name, and so fragrant (and poisonous!)

You do have so many varieties that are gorgeous. i especially love plumeria from Hawaii.

I go by Richard's assessments of the differences between a Datura and a Brug. Datura blossoms (Devil's Trumpets) point upwards from hell :-) whereas Brugmancias (Angel's Trumpets) flare downwards, from the heavens, if you wish...

I don't think I've ever seen that corral and yellow coloring on a hibiscus... I want me some! I'm inspired to take pictures of my Hibiscus plants and post the various kinds I have. Maybe I'll do that soon before they stop blooming.

Richard, I've seen the Brugmancias but I haven't seen any here in Hawaii so far.
Yes, the Datura is poisonous (BellaDonna) but I think they are soooo pretty!

Anne, I hope to do an essay on the different plumerias

Duckie, I have several more photos of hibiscus and was thinking of doing an essay on them too...Great minds and all that!

Sonia, tropical flowers are my favorites. One of my best anniversary gifts was a bouquet of imported tropical flowers. If only there had been a way to preserve them!

Donna, I'm not sure if this method of preserving flowers works with all of them, but you can mix glicerine and water and put the stems in the solution for some time...as the stem 'draws' in the liquid, the flowers and leaves will take "their fill" and keep their color (albeit a bit faded). It works with Hydrangeas, and it might work with others.

These photos are just stunning. You certainly do live in a tropical paradise. When I lived in Australia, we had some flora that was different, but Sydney was too far south for real tropical plants. I saw some beauties when we traveled to Queensland.

I think the northern parts of Australia have similar tropical plants to Hawaii. I know that many of the same flora and fruits we grow here do grow there....
Going backwards here through your articles, but wow! What colors!!! They look good enough to eat. ;o)
