These are the memories of summer that I shall hold and keep safe within my mind like precious jewels... In the inevitable, churlish, barren days of winter to come, I shall rend them from their place of safe-keeping and glory in these tiny, golden glimpses:
The rays of the sunset through the leaves of California Buckeye in the tiny glade behind the house...
A dusky child of Bastet lounging in the dappled light upon his magic carpet...
The quickly ripening colors of summer's fruits...
The perfumes of the pendulous blossoms of Crinum Lily...
and the delicate, white blooms of Chilean Jasmine -- the "Sacred Vine of the Incas" --
mixing together and wafting upon the deeping evening air in muted shades of rose and violet...
As a mated pair of herons fly overhead...
glide lazily eastward...
and disappear from view...
