Gambeling

On our quad ride today we came across these two Gambel's Quail running as fast as they could to get out of the way of the quads. We slowed down to get a couple shots and they settled down for a minute. Pretty soon they scurried off into the brush. Gambel's Quail are native to Arizona. (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8)

LMAO, Hick@heart. I'm positive it's not Texas. I actually lived in Texas and have known people who live there and I wasn't too impressed, but then again I was a kid at the time. It is definitely a very dry heat so it has to be Arizona.

I love these quail. There used to be lots of families of them over at Don's and Nancy's each year; the little ones forming their line behind parent. I used to love sitting on the porch in the mornings, with a cup of hot coffee, waiting for them to come out.

My kids used to chase these guys around our yard! Haha, they are too cute! I can't recall how many times I had to wait for lines of them to cross the street too.

Great shots, and they do look healthy! I see them in our front yard quite often, or on roof tops across the street; and love it when they have their little chicks behind them.

Sandy: Yes, the quail here are really good if you can find them. Most years it's too dry here for them to have a very good hatch. I like the quail because it's a white meat.

LOL, Tinch, now that would have been good. Yep, I think yours is actually called California quail and it does look very similar to the Gambel's quail.
