I'm so, SO EXCITED!
I've been seeing a flash of blue in my front yard for a couple of days... At first, I thought it was a pair of barn swallows because, you see, actual "bluebirds" are SUCH a rarity in the area where I live...
I got a better look at one of them earlier today and saw that it was, indeed, an actual "western bluebird" but, every time I tried to sneak outside to take a picture, they would fly off!
Then, I tried to shoot a photo of one of them THROUGH the glass in my kitchen window... It was an okay photo but he was obscured by leaves and it only showed his back:
Just now, though, I went and stood right outside the front door and one of them flew up and perched on an old piece of lumber across the driveway and just LOOK at some of the photos I got!
Are you ready? This next one's the "money shot":
I'm so excited that I'm STILL practically jumping out of my SKIN! I simply can't BELIEVE that I got these shots -- of a BLUEBIRD, no less!!!
I realize that those of you who live in the Eastern U.S. will find my excitement rather puzzling... When Hubby and I visited his mother in Georgia one time during the summer, there were TONS of bluebirds all OVER the place but, here in Sonoma County where I live, I didn't see my first bluebird until I was well into my 40s and I've never, NEVER gotten a photo of one before...
Yippppeeeee!!! :^D

Bluebird, Bluebird Song
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window.
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window.
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window .
Oh, Johnny I'm so tired.
Take a little girl (boy) and pat her (him) on the shoulder
Take a little girl (boy) and pat her (him) on the shoulder
Take a little girl (boy) and pat her (him) on the shoulder
Oh, Johnny I'm so tired.
Playing the Game:
Teachers introduce this song and ask children to join hands and form a circle. Youngsters hold their hands up high to represent "windows" and the preschool "bluebird" weaves in and out of the windows during the first verse. During the second verse the "bluebird" chooses a child and gently pats him/her on the shoulder several times. Repeat the first verse as both children weave in and out of the windows, with the first child holding on to the second child's shoulders.
Continue until there are no more windows and all the children are holding onto each others shoulders.
Awwww... Thanks so MUCH, Sue! I'm still just in awe!

Actually, I have to admit not knowing anything about birds - I thought blue birds were a myth. (don't laugh..

U wishing you laughter
Thanks for posting to my group All Photo Essays Here @ allphotoessays.gather.com!
The local avian fauna around here, with the exception of Tui and Wood Pigeon, which mostly live right in the bush, are of the distinctly muddy brown type. Something this colourful would be a welcome distraction.
Thanks for viewing, Sarah! :o)
Have you seen any bluebirds this year Jean? They are gorgeous.
Jean you got some great shots of the bird. I live in New York. I don't think I have ever seen a bluebird here. I mostly see robins (brown ones) and lots and lots of pigeons. OH no we also have some black birds I don't know their names. Ones i SAW A RED BIRD AND I jumped for joy.
