I don't think this poll implies that people were asked by health care providers. As I read it, the poll was a standard poll where people were asked about their intent to get shots.
Before anyone asks, I did the research to learn where I got the numbers. They were given in an article I read in the respected US News and World Report.. I read only mainstream press.
About as representative as most US News and World Report polls, I'm sure. It is interesting, and considering the fact that there are probably two questions:
- What political party do you belong to/consider yourself affiliated to? - Have you gotten or are you planning on getting a flu shot this year?
there's not much bias or slant in the questions themselves. I would say that it's a pretty reliable outcome. Of course, the sampling strategy is probably indicative of how reliable it is, too. Where? and How Many? would be interesting to know.
Please remember that less than 20% of voters today identify themselves as republicans. Noisy, but small! I feel sorry for the children of those republicans refusing Flu shots. But, horrible as it might sound...they are helping to thin out the shallow end of the gene pool!

I was listening to a radio show the other day with some doctors and health professionals speaking about the vaccine and the erroneous info being spread about it. They, too, lamented that many people (and they didn't say this, but it's pretty clear who they were talking about) are woefully ignorant and choose to believe totally erroneous scare tactics rather than medical facts. As Spartan points out, woe to their children, who are one of the most suseptible groups for actually dying of H1N1.
It really amazes me just how gullible and ignorant many Americans are, what with the access to free libraries, the internet, and educational institutions. Unbelievable. Many people here act worse than the most backward third world villages.
Good news is that they have plenty in stock and are not going to run out of this vaccine, as they have with the regular flu vaccine in the past, Nip. You'll have to let us know if it has any adverse effects on amphibians. :)
Figures. The Republicans think that it is some weird government conspiracy to impregnate citizens with some mind control or some other such rot! Let them die out from the flu, fools!
The conspiracy factor. Look if our doctors tells us we do not really need the shot why get it. Why be the Govt guinea pig? I have not had a flu shot since 2001 have not had one since. Nor did I get the flu or pass it on to anyone.

Seriously, I hope nobody dies as the result of not getting a flu shot. I think they're making a foolish risk-benefit calculation though.
No one I know of is asked their political affilation when getting any kind of medical care.
