The GOPUSA Loft is a very informative group and has some really interesting posts in it. I was checking it out today and found this post about Obama and his opinion of the federal gas tax. Check it out!

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has criticized John McCain and Hillary Clinton for their support of a summer break from the 18.4 cent per gallon gas tax as a way to provide a bit of relief for Americans so they can enjoy their summer more and, hopefully, perhaps stimulate the economy a bit, as well.

Obama has stated that some experts say it could mean only a $30 average savings per family. That means those who are still unable to afford to take a vacation, won't, and for others the savings may be $60 or $90 or more.

Elitist Barack Obama thinks that is chump change that won't make any difference for anyone. Afterall, as we know from the Obama family's Easter getaway, a vacation for them is a luxury trip to the Virgin Islands. However, for many Americans, summer "vacation" is a trip to another state to visit grandma or a camping trip a few hours away from home. That 18.4 cents per gallon savings can mean the difference of an extra one, two or three tanks of gas or an extra night or two at a motel or campground which can mean the difference between taking the family on a summer vacation -- or NOT.

Obama's sneering opposition to the McCain proposal illustrates just how out of touch he is with average working Americans. No, the gas tax "vacation" won't pay for an Obama-style family vacation in the Virgin Islands, but it can go a long way towards helping working class Americans enjoy a typical summer vacation.

I have been saying this all along. He is out of touch with working American. Boy $60 buys extra groceries here! Maybe even an extra tank of gas! For his supporters put in terms of Starbucks latres and maybe they'll understand. He is also a city boy and doesn't understand us por ole country folk need to drive to get anyway. We don't have train,subways andl imos like him.

It's really not the solution to the problem. It's a short term fix. Yes I agree most people could use an extra $30. But we have a major energy problem. We are dependent on an energy source that is dwindling and we are doing little to nothing to develop new sources of energy or ways to transfer the energy so it can be used. That's the problem we have and we need to address it.

He is definitely out of touch. But most politicians are. I read recently that the average politician has a net worth of $2 million. How can any of them relate to the average American? Of course to Joe Average $30, $60 or $90 in savings means a bunch. How can they not know that????????

I don't think it will do much either and don't quite get it, but I'll tell you what... I'll take it. Call it pandering, but not anymore really than making a big bad issue of it..??? Just like everybody putting down those tax rebate checks, I don't see anybody that complained getting in line to turn them back in....

Obama and his wife are just a bunch of elitists, who think that a few dollars won't make a difference. But when some Americans are literally living hand to mouth, that extra 30 dollars could be the difference and need to choose, buying something to eat or filling up the family car.

To Obama, spending 10 to 15 thousand on a vacation is ordinary so he can't get see how an average American could use 30 to 60 extra for anything.

Wake up, you won't save a dime. The minute they cut the taxes, the oil companies will raise the price by the same amount to keep up with demand. It's a supply and demand problem. That might be complicated to you. Ok. Then look at history. When Obama was a senator this was proposed in Illinois. He voted for it. It did not work. They cut the tax, the oil companies raised the price by the same amount. Get it?

Back to supply and demand. Cut the price, people drive more, demand increases. Supply being (nearly) finite, they need to increase the price to maintain demand back to pre-behavior change level. That's why it did not work in Illinois then, and it won't work nation wide now.

He has EXPERIENCE on this. Why would he repeat a mistake? Hillary does not have a clue on this because she was first lady for ever in Arkansas, and first lady for 8 years. She was not a decision maker. She can learn from Barack's experience on this issue, without a doubt.

This is the guy whose mother was on food stamps. I think he can relate to the problems of working people.

Will the estimated $28 dollar savings from a "gas tax holiday" buy your vote?

The real problem here is that the US can be self-sufficient on our on oil if we would jsut get it out of the ground and use it.

There is enough oil just under Texas to run Texas for the next 100 years! Lets use it!

How about being out of touch with economics and reality. The gas tax holiday will cost us 300,000 jobs.

I think the people who are really out of touch are the ones who did not pump gas for a long time. Clearly McCain and Hillary last pumped gas for themselves more than 10 years ago. McCain probably more than 20 years ago. They did not realize that a typical 11-15 gallon of sedan will save you around 30 cents a day under their plan. 30 bucks for the whole summer. These two are so out of touch. The idea that Hillary clinton who born and raised in the burbs, went to Wellesley and Yale, spent the last 20+ years being first lady of a state, first lady of the nation, then senator, worth 100 million dollars is in touch is ludicrous. In touch with who? She has been surrounded with aides and bodyguards for as long as I can remember. What is her daily contact with average americans.

Ed H., I don't know where you are from but here they only fix the roads that don't need anything done to them.

If they would knock off the taxes and not let the oil companies raise the price to compensate for the difference then that would HELP us some! Any help would be better than nothing.

As for losing jobs, there doesn't have to be any job losses.

I have learned that you can not argue politics with anyone but, I can not be swayed into believing or following Obama. He, to me, is up to something and it will not be good for us!

There are other things that can be done to drive drop the price of oil -- quit putting oil into the strategic reserves and encourage the OPEC to pump more oil.

I think these days of $2.30 per gallon gas are gone. I am slowing down my driving to conserve fuel and will definitely be getting a more fuel efficient vehicle.

I wish our gas was $2.30, ours is $3.36.

I filled my car the other day and got 22 gallons of gas and it cost me $78.00! I don't care what anyone says that is BS!

Lots of folks, including me, would appreciate catching a break anywhere they can, but suspending the gas tax will only result in the actual price of gas going up to make up for the difference. So you aren't actually getting a break, and road conditions suffer in the end.

The gas tax vacation won't pay for a Hilary-style campaign loan either. Common folks, they're all millionaires. And if the gas tax holiday is all they have to offer us regular folks, then I'm thoroughly insulted. I think they can do better.

Your right Stephanie, they could and should do better especially when it is us, the working people that pay their salaries. But, then again, if they helped us it would tell the rest of the world that we are all not rich in America. They don't want for anyone to know that we have problems too.

They don't want to help us, who furnishes the money they spend in the first place, but, they get mad when their help is turned down, go figure.

Our Government is stupid all stupid.and are not going to change for anybody. we do need a change, but the government won't let us (the American people) change anything. They say they will, but they're all liars. Like I read someone said, they tells us anything we want to hear just to get our vote. There's not one, no not one in there who is honest any more. And frankly, I'm ashamed of them all. If we ever get a good one in office who is honest,and does the right thing to help us out of a hole, then some one will shoot him or her. Simply because they don't want change.
