My girlfriend has been over from England this week, so it's been a wonderful week for me, apart from the fact that I have not been able to take any time off work, so every day the alarm has woken us up at 6:15am, and I have been out the door an hour later, leaving her on her own until lunchtime.
She is not used to having to wake up that early, since most people in England don't start work until 9am, and she works from home a lot so doesn't need to wake until 8:30am most days, so having to wake up in "the middle of the night" so to speak is not easy.
Fortunately I work only 10 minutes from home, so I can rush home lunchtimes to see her, grab a bit to eat and a cuddle, and then she can go down to the pool and catch some sun (although this week we did have 2 cold days and she was stuck indoors all day). And then it's back to work and another rush home at 5pm to spend a few more hours together until it's time to sleep.
It's hard that she can only take off when the schools in England are on break, and that I don't get many days vacation a year over here, unlike Europe, where most countries get at least 23 days a year. So in between holidays we just have to make do with phone calls, email and of course the webcam, but it's not the same is it!
I have been in the USA for 15 years, and the weather in Florida is so nice compared with England, I would love for her to be able to move over here, but the immigration process is to difficult and slow these days, it's almost impossible to get a visa. It's hard to know what to do...
I'm not a US Citizen, didn't see the need - until now of course! I am a Resident, but that doesn't qualify me to bring her over here. The Citizenship process alone takes over a year right now, and then if we were to get married, it would take up to a year, maybe more to get her residency or citizenship. I don't know if we could handle another year or two of being kept apart, yet we are so close we can't give up on each other either.
So, tomorrow afternoon, it's back to Miami Airport to drop her off for the long 9 1/2 hours flight back to London, a long lonely flight, and then we have to make do with the webcam for the next 5 weeks until she comes back.
It's tough when you are both so deeply in love, having to be apart, but we do what we can to be together, even though flights these days are so expensive and money is tight, but I know we will make it in the end, somehow.
Tomorrow night I'm going to be sad, tonight is our last night together for 5 weeks, but as always I have lots of wonderful memories to look back on.
The weather is warming back up again, so maybe if the sky is clear we can sit on the beach as the sun sets this evening and watch the full moon under a clear sky. That would be wonderful...

I just dropped her off at Miami Airport, got home and I'm all alone :)
At least she will be back in 5 weeks, but it's hard being away from the one you love, really hard.
I just wish there was an easy answer...
Now I just have to try and sleep, thinking of her on that 9 1/2 hour flight back to the cold and wet of England...
Don't worry, I had a three year long distance relationship - Australia/USA and eventually moved to the US. We were married last year and things are great. Five weeks will be easy.
My husband and I did the long distance thing for two years, and it sure is an expense but so worth it.
