I personally think this is silly, people should be able to watch what they want. But at the same time, I don't let my children watch this. We used to, but it seems it has just gotten raunchier with time. Some cartoon are made for adults. Maybe instead of taking it off the air, they should air it later in the evening like they do in the U.S.
Do you watch the Simpsons?
Do you let your children watch the Simpsons?
Venezuela has forced U.S. cartoon "The Simpsons" off its airwaves, calling the show a potentially bad influence on children, and filled its morning slot with reruns of the beach-and-bikini show "Baywatch."
"The Simpsons" satirical take on a dysfunctional American family had been shown, dubbed into Spanish, on the Televen network at an 11 am slot.
"Today I believe they started broadcasting something else," said a spokesman at Venezuela's broadcasting regulator Conatel. "They were infringing many things in the television and radio social responsibility law."
Conatel said it started proceedings against the morning airing of the show after complaints from viewers.
Televen has replaced the long-running and popular cartoon with "Baywatch Hawaii," late seasons of the "Baywatch" series that made actress Pamela Anderson a household name.
20th Century Fox Television, which owns "The Simpsons" and is part of News Corp, said it was not immediately able to comment on the decision to pull "The Simpsons." The long-running show was once criticized by former U.S. President George H. W. Bush but is now a major U.S. cultural reference.
Many Venezuelan television stations fill their schedules with reruns of old U.S. series and Latin American soap-operas.

A lot of parents say that it teaches children not to listen to or respect authority figures.... because of the way the kids treat the adults and they are portrayed as pretty stupid! I myself see that.... to a point. I mean, if you were going to not let your children watch anything that showed children disrespecting adults or making them look stupid, you might as well throw your tv away! It's everywhere. The big difference is how you raise your children. As long as you aren't letting the tv babysit for you, they should know it is fiction and to respect adults and authority.
I really won't let my kids watch Family Guy or American Dad or South Park.... they are not only adult.... but just repulsive and disgusting.
I guess it's all up to the discretion of the parents as to what the kids watch.... but we need to really think what they might "learn" from the shows they watch. Some kids (especially really young children), don't distinguish between reality and fiction. Like kids that watched the power rangers and started doing stunts and hurting themselves. I don't know how many stories I've heard of kids trying to "fly" after watching Superman!
You know I was sitting here thinking about the story and noticed that no one else has mentioned this either:
What are they replacing the Simpsons with?
BAYWATCH!
lol, now does that make any sense? They go from what they consider violent to sexual content for the kids to watch. Now which is worse? It's like trading one influence in for another. Now instead of learning to bonk each other on top of the head, they'll be learning.... well, nevermind!
We want to let you know that your content is important to us!
And we gave your content a 10. If you allowed ratings!
We watch the Simpsons. Only because I remember what I watched as a young child and I know it was bad but all I can remember is "funny cartoon". Kids don't see what we see. There are some things I won't let my kids watch. It's more what the parents make of it than what the kids actually see.
I would let my kids watch it sure. Children under a certian age will not understand the subtext. Once they are old enough to ask questions about the subtext, then its time to explain the subtext.
