John McCain is the Best!

He isnt so bad, I like McCain a lot. I like Obama too. I'm going to take a wait and see approach and see, besides change for the sake of change, what they really propose to do about, gas, Iraq and the economy.

Beth, I don't hate McCain, but the Republicans at Gather REALLY hate Obama. So I was wondering if they actually liked McCain.

The answer to your question is NO. I would prefer another candidate, but McCain is much better than Obama!

This election is interesting in that it's the first one in a long time in which the Republican vote is not solidly behind the nominee. The interesting question of this election is whether the religious right staying home in protest of McCain being the nominee (despite his futile outreach efforts to the Jerry Falwell wing) will offset the disaffection of the far-left Democrats who see Obama reaching for the center.

Well, McCain already lost a lot of the senior citizen vote today when he failed to show up for a major bill regarding medicare. It took Senator Kennedy to fly in to Washington after getting treatment for his tumor to break the Republican stall tactics and get the bill passed.

1 senator did not vote today on the medicare bill: McCain. For a man who preaches so much about actions speaking louder than words, his lack of action on this matter speaks crystal clear.

I'm a Republican, Wilma. I'll be happy to throw in my two-cents worth in on McCain.

I can't stand the man. He is mispositioned on global warming, he mis-categorized Bush's tax cuts as being "tax cuts for the rich," he was a part of the "Gang of 14" that was supposed to give Bush guidance on nominating Supreme Court Justices; this "Gang" was formed because the "moderates" and liberals in Congress were pissed that Bush was nominating conservative judges.

John McCain is too old to be President; he has never managed an organization of any size. His only work experience has been as a military man and as a member of Congress. He admits to knowing absolutely nothing about economic policy.

Like I said, I cannot stand the man. So I will be voting for the Libertarian Party candidate, former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr.

I dont hate McCain I dont think he was a good choice but since I attended the Dem caucus and Huckabee won the Reps in Iowa what I think really doesnt matter.

I think the more vocal people on gather just hate Obama and cant get past that to actually support a candidate.

I try to avoid politics and religion. I learned at work you should never bring either up. I'm not saying who I support (in some ways I'm still unsure).

They can't find anything to brag about their guy.

I think McCain was the best choice of the Republicans who ran, and I think every Democrat that ran would have been better than him.

I'm backing Obama 08, it will be a tough election.

Obama is making too many mistakes right now. I do not feel that McCain is the right choice but he is all we have.

The problem, Wilma (other than the fact that you're quoting Emo Phillips) - is that John McCain doesn't actually have positions beyond "continue the surge," "maintain the tax cuts," and "give people short-term gas price breaks," so it's not really possible to jump in with reasonable arguments in his favor.

OK, I thought I posted this enough for one lifetime, but once more for Wilma.

The makeup of Congress has just about as many agendas as Gather posters, combined. Jesse Ventura might even get in, if he runs. The first job of Reid and Palosi will be to try and sort this all out. In 2006, they held a press conference before session to say that, due to circumstances beyond their control, war funding will continue, and impeachment was out.

If anything, even more moderate Democrats will be voted in this year. The agenda fits somewhere in between both Obama and McCain.

This brings us to the bully pulpit, overreaching, and the issues that make it into the hopper. By overreaching, the perception of the public will be that of an ineffectual President. Obama is most in danger of looking weak on domestic issues, while McCain can look bipartisan and fair. All compromise legislation makes McCain look Presidential, while all compromise legislation makes Obama look bad.

The highest approval ratings are generally when a single party is not in control of the branches of government. Bill Clintons legacy is built on triangulation, watching poll numbers, and finding priorities with common ground.

I don't personally have anything against McCain's age. My father is 77, and is active, alert, fully cognizant, strong, and entirely viable. My problem with McCain is that he is VISIBLY too old for the job of the president. More often than not, he appears confused, even to the point of utter bewilderment, and his temper and callous disregard for human life bother me a great deal.

Beyond that, he seems to have a nasty habit of telling outright lies, he's continually voted against our soldiers and veterans, he's notoriously lazy (probably the worst voting attendance record in the whole senate), and he couldn't even be bothered to vote on this latest medicare bill. He's simply not fit to command, and never has been. There's a reason the navy refused to make him their first 3rd generation admiral.

Please, do us all a great favor and refute anything that I say. I've offered this challenge to all readers for the past several years, and, other than minor details here and there, have yet to see a single person successfully refute what I've posted. I know you yourself wouldn't know anything about that ;-) but this one is someone else who has played another role here on Gather and created this identity a short time ago, because they were tired of getting their a-s kicked elsewhere!
