About Fugitives (FICPP)

At Fugitives, we want all members to be welcome and involved. We only ask for a certain sense of respect and decency. We believe everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs; however when someone has 'hateful' feelings towards any other member or towards any group (homosexuals, Jews, blacks, women, Americans, etc.) to please discuss pertinent issues with an open mind and respectfully. Feel free to express your opinions, but do so in a diplomatic, reasonable way. That's why this group has been formed.

At Fugitives, we will discuss issues such as the Iraq War, the situation in the Middle East between many Muslims and the nation of Israel, Euthanasia, Abortion, the 2008 Election, Environmental Protection, Crime and Punishment, Marijuana Legalization, Gun Control, Education, Illegal Immigration, Abuses by the American Government, Abuses by Various Other Governments, and so much more.

Feel free to begin your own discussion. Only remember, the goal of this group is not to state your opinion alone; it is to engage in intelligent conversation with others who may or may not agree with you and to reasonably debate these issues, hopefully developing REAL solutions to REAL problems. There are only three rules.

1. Be respectful, respectful, respectful. Please do not use profanity or other slanderous terms, such as n*****. Respect everyone's opinions.

2. Admit the possibility YOUR BELIEFS AND OPINIONS might be WRONG. I'm admitting it right now. Be open minded. What will make you believe you could be wrong?

3. Be reasonable. Actually engage in discussion with other members. Take into consideration all other views and perspectives on every issue you are debating. In order to reason effectively, you MUST, absolutely MUST know what the other sideS will argue.

That said, let's get started!

This will be intriguing. This could be tough to predict: "In order to reason effectively, you MUST, absolutely MUST know what the other sideS will argue."
Many times, commenters surprise, inform, anger and delight us with views which have never occurred to us. We can't really know what arguments others might offer, but we can be open to reading them.

Thanks for the invitation to join. However, I don't know that I can admit that my opinions are wrong. They may not be perfectly formed or stated at times, but I cetainly maintain that the beliefs behind them are true, if again, not perfectly formed, because I am, of course, human. Some Christians unfourtuanely will feel that they perfectly understand the Bible, and so they know absolutely everything and everything correctly. I usually consider them to be way off base. Even the most scholarly that I admire may not be 100% correct. Yet, I do believe I can discern when someone is way off base, be it politically, religiously, etc. Certainly, you can have your own beliefs, but when people start to say, "...this is Biblical" or "...this is Constitutional" I get pretty strict about what is and isn't correct, especially about the latter. So, I don't know if you really want me here, but I'm willing to participate if you do.

This sounds like it could be a very interesting group to be a part of. I am playing catch up with my Gather emails right now after a fall and being ill but will watch for alerts from you. I have a topic I might bring to the forfront but I want to get caught up first.

Poor poor sub dog! As a woman, it's hard for me to feel sorry for you. Still, I'll make you a deal. I will never argue with you just because you're male, but please don't dismiss me because I'm female. This might be an example of both of us needing to see life from the other side.
