Of reclaiming life

defying gravity

Chances are you know of gravity,

but just in case you do not know,

it is what drives our mass, moves it

from this door to that door in search,

drawing our teardrops of crashes

towards the earth. Gravity moves you

in a feat of loneliness, towards

some roof, towards being Icarus.

Then sometimes a childhood friend calls;

let’s say that one Frankie calls Robert.

Frankie, whom Robert had missed all these days,

whom he thought of as dead, calls. He takes time

to appreciate who is calling.

Gravity brings the leaves of fall down.

The friends are defying the rules of

gravity all the same by waking

from the silent grave.

the specks of the thought

mist the pair of spectacles.

A vacation calls.

hey kushal i like the imagery of icarus love the story of the boy who flew too close to the sun he should of listened to his daddy that was the problem the biggest lesson we can learn from this story is one of obedience also i love ur imagery of instructions and counting out days in petals it reminds me of ts elliot talking about counting out his days in coffee spoons i think u can find it in his poem the wasteland are u living in america or india have u travelled much outside kolcata i work with many gudjaratis and punjabis they are very fun people to work with always joking and laughing and singing with each other and indian food is the best of course u are a master of the art of haiku would u like to do tan renga with me i will leave one on delphic and if u are interested please finish it

I imagine Frankie is pleased to discover he is alive. Bit of a shock but a nice one to discover someone you believed was lost is not.

These I really like, Kushal. Freedom from despair is so crucial. With this sort of freedom one can see what is good with living and enjoy it. And counting the days in petals brings wonderful images and thoughts to mind.

I hope I didn't miss the essence of the poem Kushal.
This the the first time I've heard someone combine the concepts of time and gravity, other than in physics books, paintings by Salvador Dali or, in science fiction stories. I like your way best Kushal. Nice twist to this lesson.

Brother poet, you are so generous with your dedications. I never thought of death and depression as related to gravity before. It's a genius concept that only you could think of. The Haiku is beautiful!

kushal i could be way off base here but could this be a positive poem for u reclaiming life is a positive theme its good that u have love for life again please enlighten us as to what brought about this turn around in mood for u are u trying to say gravity makes u suicidal in the way it brings u down the same way as do dark depressing thoughts i like the imagery of waking from the silent grave there is hope at the end u rise up from the dead depression does not destroy u u are its victor :)

Interesting approach, Kushal. The line, "Gravity brings the leaves of fall down." tightens the metaphor and adds contrast to the succeeding lines. Fun to reread--several times.

Thank you so very much my brother. I have talked with Frankie several times now since his resurrection. It is a unique, but fortunately rare, viewpoint to gain by finding a friend you thought (heard) dead, to be still alive. Seems the news of his demise was greatly exxagerated. You would like him Kushal.

Blessings to you and your talented pen. I am touched. Gravity is a very powerful force my friend. As is your writing. If we could convert your writings mathematically and introduce them into E=MC2, I have no doubt that Einstein's Theory would then become Einstein's Law. And quite possibly, Newton would smile too.

The universe is a very good place for you to be my friend. I'm honored that you're here.

I am, if you have no objections, copying this poem and saving it to my hard-drive. Gather could cease to exist, or you could be eaten by a shark, and I don't want to lose this one.

No, I'm not prophetic, but perhaps you should stay out of the sea for a couple days. I'd feel funny if you got ate by a shark this afternoon.

Defying gravity-- I like the thought of fighting gravity by connecting to the things that lift us up. Frankie and Robert defeat gravity by reaching out to each other again. Nice words. Uplifting... hey, you have just defeated gravity yourself, Poddar!
