Tasmanian Devil, dying
The smell of food is changing course with wind,
the weathercock seems to chase its own tail;
I can smell you too, watching for a devil.
What bullet does kill a devil, like me,
an innocent devil who does not know
that you call him so? Of course you won’t kill.
I am going to be killed anyway.
The pestilence, the nemesis, the plague…;
it has followed me; killed my friends and kin.
Do you care for a black stocky mammal,
with veracious hunger, obnoxious smell
and a facial tumor killing it?
Slowly?
Slowly.
Slower than the settlers who had wiped us
from the mainland. I am now Tasmanian,
a devil, dying, hungry and confused.
In your backyard I am watching for food.
Will you send me away with blank fires?
I bet.

It was Robert who had brought this endangered species into my notice and provided me all the good will to write on. I hope, one day we shall save this species and many others by spreading awareness. Keep watching the nature.

Reminds me of the smells in San Juan, Puerto Rico, not quite as asceptic as we here in the mainland are accustomed to, but more ripe, both food and garbage.
The Tasmanian Devil is a delightful creature....So many are endangered now.

This kind of "devil" obviously should NOT perish... bravo, dear Poddar! :-)
Blessings and best wishes - S.
This was a very interesting read. I think I'm glad I have never been any where that smells like that.
wow
Symbolic as well as an insightful projection of an endangered creature. Well done, Kushal.
Thank you, John
What a great piece of work. Not enough people are aware of (or care about) the plight of the Tasmanian Devil. Just another example of man's toxic effect on earth's life force. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Thank you, I am delighted with your response in
Devil, dying
Good one, Poddar!
Very powerful take on humanity's perception of what is worth saving~beauty or the concept of beauty blinds them to true magnificence~
Thank you for posting to GutterGirls~
Interesting write filled with imagery. It's a great poem, Ku! Thank you for posting to our group.
Kushal,
Personalizing, speaking through your created image gave this piece it's identity. You brought us in and gave voice to another marginalized life form. Well done.
Your writing is now within The Surreal Circus
Kushal, this is an excellent piece to spotlight yet another important issue. I do hope we begin to protect and honor the life on this earth and protect the earth itself.
Ten. Highlighting important issues that trouble this world of ours, and its various peoples.
Insightful and thought provoking. So much underneath the surface of these words!
Very good Poddar
Another soul who should not perish. Looney Tunes should do a tribute animation - a last hurrah for Bugs and Taz. I would be more than willing to write the script. I wish I knew someone who knew someone.....
Your poem is evocative Poddar. Even a critter named 'devil' deserves his existence. Thank you brother.
Hey, everybody; it was Robert who brought this endangered species into my notice and he supplied me with all the goodwishes to write more. I certainly hope that our dream will be a reality.
Poddar gives me too much credit. His heart is full of compassion for the planet and all God's natural wonders. To visit more of his posts in this series you can searh for the tags: 'save the creatures' and 'save the planet'
If we all do a little part, the big part gets taken care of.
Well done, Poddar!! Thank you!
It is a shame so many species are endangered. We should all do more for their preservation...even if they are little devils. Good work my friend.
Ahhh... I would feed the poor thing were he to show up in my yard...
I hope to meet many more like you.
The Tasmanian Devil is a scavenger and it's noise is just that all noise. It makes me mad when people vilify our fellow earthlings. And makes me mad when they set out to destroy them.
No one does more damage to this wonderful planet than out own species.
Well done Poddar, you and Robert and doing a noble cause with your excellent poetry. If we all did our best to change the world it would be a better place!
I am a dreamer and a doer ... doing my part to help our Earth!
This is now featured on Dream, Laugh, Live ... thanks for your poetry!

I can't figure out the new glitch for posting pictures...%@%&!
Great one Poddar. I have a soft spot for Tasmanian Devils and Wolverines. They may be scavengers, and not pretty, but think of all the disease we'd have if not for their appitites.
me, I have a love of words and yu choose yours well.
Well done!!
I had not been aware that the Tasmanian Devil was endangered, though I am hardly surprised to find out it is. I wonder if the list of endangered species is now longer than the list of species not endangered.
Problem is: too many humans. We need to get zero population growth. All of our problems become smaller and more mangeable with about half the current global population.
Very neat, and thanks to both of you.
I agree with Svetlana that 'devil' shouldn't parish, it's a fine poem Poddar.
Very intense, but wonderfully done.
very nicely done!
thanks!
not Taz!!! Too many species have disappeared, even in my short lifetime!
I'm glad you're supporting those creatures that can not support themselves! Thanks so very much for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
Again you highlight the tragic plight so elegantly, so sad in its beauty.
I can't believe I didn't get it until the end. Really well done, Poddar.
of course: Man is Man, ever and always.
Poor devil ::(
Good one, Kushal. Many species do seem doomed.....
Cool.
