You say I'm your fondest memory,
And while I know that this is true,
I don't want to be just a distant thought,
I'd rather be there anew.
Old memories grow dim and fade with time,
But my attachment to you is strong,
And confining it all to a scrapbook
Somehow seems all wrong.
I'll always be part of your history,
But don't cut me out of today.
Don't make me part of a moment
You remember fondly then put away.
Don't ask me to just be a memory
Because frankly, I just don't know how.
Yes, I'd love to be part of forever
But I still want to live in your now

Due to my unfortunate absence from Gather at times, I've neglected you.
I can see that it's been my loss. This is an exquisite poem. I love it. Through your words I was able to fully identify with the narrator.
I must look at your other works.
Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
When it comes to poems such as this, and also many conventional rhyming poems, the cadence is extremely important. The problem with meter is, if it's not very specific and well defined, it can be physically read in a lot of different ways that may disrupt the flow. Make sure that if you go for a poem that is so dependent on meter, you use a very clear rhythym.
:O) beautiful language, great poem. I like it. :O)

You should put it in a file for a future book of poetry.

Damn good stuff with that unmistakable Shelbia flavor.
