My Distant Friend

Somehow I wanted more from you
than you were prepared to give,
So we went our separate ways,
found different lives to live.

But the bond will always be there,
Our friendship remains intact.
Though our time to play has come and gone,
Some pages you can't turn back.
I will always be your friend
No matter where you are.
Smiles and remembered laughter
Keep you close though you are far.

But some days when you are busy,
With a million things to do
Take a minute to slide me through your mind,
Let me spend some time with you.
And then in a quiet moment,
Don't be surprised to find me there
Because no matter how great the distance,
I am still someone who cares.
