A dinner to be thankful of

A dinner to be thankful of

The brown corpse of crispy bird is just out

of the touch of fire, in its breast

the gluten free fillings are warm like the

inside of the glowing heart of my host.

A toast is made. The cheery cries of

wishing health succumb amidst the sound of

Niagara being drunk by already

tipsy me.

                 A far out footstep is approaching.

Is our friend there?

Is anybody else coming too?

Yes, we asked her!

Oh!

A blush like a lady tulip meets sudden paleness.

It has been too many days.

A delay has made eternal

by accruing measures of delay.

How does she assess delays?

 Time? No. Space? No.

Thankless year? Perhaps.

I can see a dinner table with remains

of my half eaten heart.

There we left a half backed story.

I look at the face of my host.

Yes, I know I can't express

Your first line sets the tone for a vivid scene backdrop as the singular self narrative describes streams of thought until interrupted by knowing you'll be seeing a lady you have dated but recently avoided. You have had more than enough to drink and are apprehensive, but we are not allowed to see the meeting. It's as if the video camera ran out of battery.

William's comment may correspond to what you had in mind, Poddar, or it could relate to a relative or friend. I believe you meant "half baked" instead of "half backed" and perhaps thankful for in place of thankful of. Another wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing your considerable talent.
