Today during our lunch break, I went bowling with some guys from work. We do this every other Friday after payday. When we got to the lanes, the place was nearly full with families and kids and all that. We got a lane right slap in the middle of everybody, and it was very noisy and chaotic inside.
However, we all bowled really well. As a group, we had more strikes and spares than average. Pins would fall down like dominos in weird combinations that don't normally happen.
I got to thinking about the pins falling, and I had to wonder something - Do the pins fall more easily when the place is busy? Think about the vibrations going through the floor from all those bowling balls hitting the lanes. Combine that with the constant noise of kids yelling and talking and running around. All that vibration seems like it would make the pins a little less stable, which I think might explain why they fell more easily than usual.
What do you think? Have you ever noticed this phenomenon?
