Someone flagged my article on the Decemberists (procommunist band) opening for Obama at his Oregon Rally. The band starts their shows with the Soviet National Anthem. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would flag the article. There was no hate speech profanity or anything in it. I guess they just don't want people to know about it. Why is that, do you think? Some will come on here and tell you they are not pro-Communist. I would point again to fact that they start their shows by playing the Soviet National Anthem.

BTW I am giving you a Ten just cause.
If Obama wants a COOL Communist to play he should get Billy Bragg. I never heard of these other guys.
"The band's songs range from upbeat pop to instrumentally lush ballads, and often employ instruments like the accordion, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer organ, and upright bass. In their lyrics, the band eschew the angst and introspection common to modern rock,"
You just GOTTA love the warble of the Hammond and Wurrlizer organs !!!! ha ha
Untrue.
The band is named in reference to an 1825 revolt over the Imperial Russian succession (Decembrist revolt), and is not related to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 at all. Their name is also a reference to the atmosphere associated with the month of December.
They're also a great indie rock band who write very literate beautiful songs on a variety of subjects, most of which aren't political at all and a lot of which reference historical events and literature.
See their website to actually listen to some of their music before making irrational judgments.
Also, you can download live recordings of their shows on the interents - NONE of which begins with the soviet anthem.
Again Rosa what isn't true about it.
Change the Decemberists believe in
WTF does that mean!? Should I be insulted or not?
(I guess it's marginally better than "Lol idiot", whatever that means.)
A poster of Che (Communist mass murderer) Guevara hung in the Houston Office of Obama supporters
Obamas Pastor makes anti-American racist statements
Obama practices Black Liberation Theology. Black Liberation Theology was started by a Communist that used to preach in front of the Soviet Flag
Obama is friends with unrepentant terrorists Bill Ayers and his wife.
Obamas brother Abongo is a radical Muslim in the middle of a holy war with Kenya where they are burning Christians alive he is attempting to bring SHeria Law to Kenya (Barack refers to him as the relative he is most proud of)
Obama allows a proCommunist Band to perform at his campaign rally even promted it on the Obama website.
I guess none of you have ever heard the phrase where there is smoke there is fire.
There has never been a communist economy or government. There have been authoritarian states that called themselves communist. Any resemblance between them and a political system inspired by Marx and Engels is cosmetic at best.
Sometimes, where there is smoke there is a huge bong with a fear-driven conspiracy theorist going one toke over the line.
Are you serious? I will take it that you are, although if so I am very surprised. The Decembrists are not a "Communist" band. The fact that someone played the FORMER Soviet Union anthem, (which happens to be a beautiful piece of music) does not mean that the band is communist. I still find it hard to take this seriously. Please dont lose your sense of humor over this election.
I suppose I can understand that you really dont want to live in a country with Obama as President. I felt that way about Huckabee. But still, there are plenty of good arguments to make against Obama, without having to resort to this type of thing.
Communists? Sheesh, these days it might be a relief to actually find a communist. At least they werent too fond of Islamic fundamentalism. Too bad they are all gone.
Oh and by the way, the Decembrists were radicals in 1825, and the Soviets did extoll them, but they were not communists, but democrats. Also take a look at the band web site. I searched in vain for calls to the stuggling masses to arise and overthrow the ruling class.
Most anthems are beautiful music. Since there is no Soviet Union any more and the Decembrists were democrat in philosophy I see no problem.
I am not an Obama supporter, being that most hated and reviled of things, a *shhh* republican. But I certainly see a lot of BS being touted as facts about this guy. Most of it by folks like yourself Shawn who get excited about some really nonsensical stuff.
I want to hear them now, the band, cause I have never heard the "warble of the Hammond and Wurrlizer organs" and Peter says its great.
Choice of a band or a song is a pretty weak nail to hang a diatribe on. Just my opinion.
These Shawn moments you are having, Shawn, make you look a little... Shawnish. Using nonsense as a way to get attention is pathetic. When you have to stoop to this kind of 'conspiracy' post to find something wrong with Obama, you come off looking like a paranoid nutcake.
If you are looking for conspiracies... why not try looking where you'll find them under (every) Bush... in his administration's policies, strategies and actions for the last 7.5 years. Honestly, this is such a ridiculous post I felt ridiculous posting a comment, as I don't really want to encourage you, but in my own childishness I simply couldn't let it go.
/ldblquote…he will shatter the putrescence and complacency of the bourgeoisie…"
That quote from Meloy, sort of sounds like... um... me. (about 40 years ago).
Have you read Trotsky or Lennon or Stalin - you should be a little more knowledgeable before you jump into the fray.
By the way, dufus, that anthem was indeed the Soviet tune but was so loved by the Russians that after rejecting a new anthem after Soviet Union fell, they adopted the old anthem as the new Russian national anthem. SO, today that anthem is no longer the Communist tune but the current Russian national anthem. What would you say if they played the Marsailles, or Rule Brittiania?
Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
And many more who like to call others communists because they think like seven-year-olds and believe it's a dirty word.
No, Joyce.. you mean YOU don't know what religion he is, which is as it should be. One of the most horrifying of a score of horrific actions taken by our current Moron-in-Chief has been his insistence on confusing religion with democratic principles of government. I don't give a crap what church, if any, a politician attends. Not my business, anymore than who he sleeps with is of interest to me. Shouldn't be to you, either.
As for this whole "let's-judge-Obama-by-what-music-some-band-plays" idiocy, why is anyone bothering to even respond?
It is difficult to fathom anyone characterising communism as anathematic when so many in this nation patronize places like Walmart.
Oh YEAH! Well . . . your Mom's fat and she dresses you funny! NYAH!
Oh YEAHHHHHHHHH!
Well . . . I'm rubber and you're glue . . . bounce off me and stick on you!
HA HA ! ! !
You're really reaching with this one. First of all the name of the band is in reference to an uprising in Russia that took place nearly a hundred years BEFORE the revolution of 1917, and had absolutely nothing to do with the communist movement. And the band plays the RUSSIAN national anthem, NOT the Soviet's.
And again, when are you going to write an actual article?
Shawn doesn't know what the Decembrist Revolution was, or means -either to Russians or historians.
He reads some raving nonsense on a rightwing blog and misunderstands what the Band means.
He suggests that the Soviet Union is still in existence.
He's a little addled (lost, actually) on the distinctions between "communism", Stalinism, and the Bolsheviks. Sharon's suggestion that he read Tolstoy or lenin is hysterical.
The references to "irony" are way out of his league; although he does seem to hanker for a sweaty get-down with The Chive.
Fortunately, he has every under-educated, fear-driven, pinhead cheering for him.
