One of my Gather Groups, Pictures of Towels, recently received a mention on the Weird Universe site. You can check it out HERE.
Weird Universe is a site that "explores every aspect of a human and natural cosmos that is not only "stranger than we imagine, but stranger than we can imagine.""
According to the site, Weird Universe is run by Alex Boese ("best known as the curator of the Museum of Hoaxes, but he has also explored the world of weird science in his most recent book, Elephants on Acid: And Other Bizarre Experiments"), Paul Di Filippo ("paid to put weird ideas into fictional form for over thirty years, in his career as a noted science fiction writer") and Chuck Shepherd ("the purveyor of News of the Weird, the syndicated column which for decades has set the gold-standard for reporting on oddities and the bizarre."). As if that's not enough, site's banner was created by "the legendary underground cartoonist Rick Altergott", who might be familiar to those acquainted with Fantagraphics comics.
I am thrilled to have my group noted on such an esteemed collection of weirdness. I wonder how they discovered it? Will they also discover Pictures of Knees, Meat, Drills and Marzipan? I can only hope.

Do we have to?
Interesting information to have of course I have no idea what I will do with the knowledge....
No, you don't (as you can see, not many have). But if you ever feel the need, Pictures of Towels will be there for you. Join today!
Congrats, though.
Well, for their information, Santa brought us several new bath towels and dishtowels for Christmas. (The idiot bought them in BB&B, only to see them for a quarter of the price in the next store "he" entered.) So I'm off to take pictures of them right now!
(Some of the dishtowels are being washed as we speak, prior to their debut performance. They'll have to wait.)
Well, you never know. Someone else might read about Pictures of Towels on Weird Universe, click on the link and see and perhaps be inspired by your lovely towels.
For the record, Pictures of Towels was inspired by this comment on a picture of a yellow towel (since removed by whoever posted it):
"Absolutely wonderful!Your true, unique talent inspires all of us on Gather. Hopefully, we will see more of your works soon!!"
I figured if one yellow towel could have such an effect on someone, think of what a whole group dedicated to pictures of towels could do!
I prefer green towels myself.
Um, oddly enough, I've never wondered that AC. But I guess you could enlighten us.
The loops helped to catch and hold the water, making drying after the bath easier, faster and more pleasant. By happy coincidence, Turkey is among the world's foremost producers of cotton and weavers of cotton cloth, including Turkish toweling."
Trust me. Given the membership and aforementioned activity level in Pictures of Towels, I can assure you you'd be completely safe.
Although, given the level of mass hysteria lately on Gather (reference articles here, here, here, here, and here, if you can stomach it), it might be kind of fun to invent a Gather Towel Fetishist Cyber Stalker, just to add a bit of fun to the current insanity.
WE MUST KEEP THE TOWEL FETISH MONSTERS OFF OF GATHER! And considering I KNOW TONS OF PEOPLE AT THE BOSTON GLOBE, I would think Gather would jump on this RIGHT AWAY.
One can dare to dream, Janna.
Thank you for posting to this group whose only purpose is to thank you for posting to this group?
It is gratifying to learn that the group is gaining the recognition it deserves.
