We are preparing for my sons college for next year and I told him to bring me a financial aid form from the school. He returned with a sheet on how to apply online, when I went to a technical school, we had forms and I don't mind doing it online but paper was much better. I went to the school to talk with the counsler and she gave me the website to go to and printed the forms out so I could do them on the paper first then put them online.
I asked her what about the children who don't own computers, what will they do and she stated they can go to the library and do them online. I told her that most innercity parents doesn't know how to use a computer and if they do, the information they will need to fill out will take so long at a library. I understand we're in a new age and all but I think they should do both, because some children will not receive financial aid or anything else due to this.
Here in Richmond County, they have started iparent, it's a system that the teachers can put the childs grades, attendance, schedule, etc all on the internet and all the parents have to do is a 10 minute training on what to do and that's it. The parents can check their childs progress, I did my training on yesterday, I'm very involved in my childrens learning but again, most parents in the innercity doens't own a computer, let alone internet.
What are your thoughts on this?

Both options should be available.
:)
Growing up I would have been one of the kids without internet access we had very little money to spare so I am sure there are still plenty of people out there without the internet. Also they say go to the library, but when I go to ours I see that those computers are always full!
