Yesterday this is what arrived in the mail:
Water For Elephants. I've wanted to read this one for a while now. I have this plot developing for one of my novels that is an 18th century circus story, and this book would continunally come to the forefront of things to read. (Despite it being in the 1920s or somewhere thereabout.) I put in a request at our library aware that there were 80 copies statewide and well over 100 requests on those books. I figured I'd be waiting months to see my turn to read it. Then by some miracle I got the book a week later. I was elated and immediatley devoured the first chapter. Then, my joy was tarnished with the fact that the novel was due when I'd be in NY and there were no renewals due to the wait line. I had but one choice... to return to book unread and hope to get it again soon.
Then this past month Gather started up a online book club. This appealed to me on so many levels since I thought they'd be so much fun, but never had the opportunity to do one locally. Here was that opportunity AND the first book was Water For Elephants. Well, long story short, three days before my birthday I was informed that I was chosen to get the book. I was elated beyond belief, and here it is all shiny new, and begging to steal me away from you all for an adventure like no other.

In addition to the book was the latest issue of Family Fun. The HALLOWEEN ISSUE (can you tell that's my favorite issue, lol) I'm so excited to try some of the projects with Gideon. This was a FREE Subscription too!

Have any of you looked at the Halloween costumes out yet? Geez they are horrible! I went to Walmart and they are all ugly for boys and made from that same material as a child's plastic birthday table cloth. All for the bargain price of $17! What the heck are these companies thinking that parents will shell out that kind of money for a 6 year old to wear a costume ONCE. I think we'll probably go second hand or make one... and I bet it'll be nicer than those ones, too. Sheesh.
Anything fun come in YOUR mail?
