Escape (100 word story)

She stared into the heavy soup pot as she slowly stirred.  Hypnotized by the colorful array of vegetables as they swirled around and around, she felt a desperation inside that was coming to a boil...a need to escape.  She could turn the pot down to a simmer, and slip outside under the pretense of going to get another pepper from the vine.  Nobody would miss her until their stomachs began to growl.  By then she would be long gone.  They wouldn't go hungry for awhile.  She always made plenty of soup...just in case the moment was right for her leaving.

Great little story. It could be the beginning of something larger . . . but it stands well on its own, too.

The felt urge is strong, Cheryl, and we know this speaker has contemplated this so many times. The soup pot, swirling like a hypnotist's spinning dial, offers escape from the life so easy, at times, to forsake. Yes, a great beginning to a story, opening a compelling crack into a potentially fascinating character.

I could feel the need to escape rising up in the character, the boiling pot was so fitting of the boiling need within her. Excellent!

this tight piece's emotive steam well...I love this
