I was very upset that a leading peson in the First tracks contest wrote me an e-mail bashing me for a negative comment i left about his song. I think its only fair to speak your mind if you have an opinion. I know others who don't say anything, but I was taught me to express my feelings. There is a lot to question about wheather votes are true votes for creativety and I have seen many remarks. It will come out in the end. If a person wins because they cheated, they will fall in the real world. I am not excusing the person who bashed my comment and took it off his song afterall he only wants to see nice remarks. To tell a person in an e-mail that they had no business leaving a remark he did not like is wrong. I am titled to my opinnions as much as he is entitled to write and play. I guess I didn't get the respect I thought I wood for my feelings.

I would not have removed my comment.
First tracks should combine the judgement of an expert panel combined with public votes. This is about talent and music, right???? The industry keeps overlooking those 2 important elements and that's part of the reason the music business is in such a crisis right now.
This is such a cop our April. I just joined the site because I saw the ads for the contest and wanted to check it out. I have done a lot of posting and have uploaded lots of items since I joined the site. The very purpose of this contest is to use something exciting like a music contest to bring people to gather.com to join up. That's what I've done and I'm enjoying it.
When you describe people's negative reactions to your content, you say they are ranting and flaming your content. I've got news for you, not liking your music does not mean that someone is ranting and flaming your content. Any comments that I've posted, and any interactions I've had with you via email (which were nowhere near harassment, btw) were civil, professional and objective. I've posted the same types of comments on every artist I have listened to. Posting my opinion in a publicly viewed, judged and voted on competition, is to be expected, which is why I'm so surprised that people are being so sensitive to simple, objective criticism.
I don't like your music at all, but clearly many many other people do. They are allowed to voice their comments of their own opinions, why are you trying to censor everyone that disagrees with you? You can't have your cake and eat it too. For all the good comments you get, it is the few criticisms that you get that will honestly help you better your music. Don't complain when someone doesn't like your music, because if you expect to win this competition and be part of a major label, believe me, you will get criticized. Trying to shelter yourself by censoring the opinions of listeners will only make the fall a harder one when you try to make your music fly.
I think several of the artists in this competition need to be exposed to what the business is like out there in the real world. I think after they try to make it out there, and enter contests in other venues, they'll see that this competition is actually a very, very tame one.
Remember, sheltering yourself from healthy criticism will only hurt you in the future.
