I like your post. I am afraid of everything at times. Fear is not a bad thing though. It is only when you let it rule your life that you have a problem. I am glad Bush is done too.

You can put one up Marilyn, I think they all pretend to answer questions. All I can say about the current president is that I would not want to be in his shoes.

I love the way Bush ad libbed the "fool me once" quote at the end. George W is a good example of illustrating the need to empower ourselves.

No, I am not afraid - not of books (this IS 2009, isn't it?) - not of information - or alternative medicine or anything else - not even of government.

The last we need not fear - because we live in countries that allow us to leave, or stay, and give us many choices. I shudder to think what it would be like to live where you have to stay - and the government gets to make your decisions for you - and if you do not agree: pouf, off to prison you go.

In that light, all of us living in the western world are blessed...

I think people often respond to the you are trying to scare people because what they are really saying is you are trying to instill doubt. Well doubt is something you will always deal with throughout your life. I think what we need to be empowering people to do is don't take someone's word for it - go out there and find out for yourself. Don't be lax get on this wonderful tool we have been given, the internet, and look at all sides of the story - not just the ones you are most comfortable with. I pride myself on when I read something that I doubt I immediately want to find out if there is any proof to what was written and analyze how this differs to what I have believed or may still believe.

Well said. Don't take someone's word for it, but search things out for yourself before coming to conclusions.

Knowledge can be over rated....

Interesting post. Weird that marilyn jumped in to defend her favorite prez on this post. I don't think she got the point at all. He has a disability and got to be president. If he can do that, I can do anything! :)

I think we should consider and be concerned about issues, but actual fear freezes the mind and causes strongly emotional/irrational reactions. "We'll deal with it" and "It will all work out in the end" are two slogans I try to remember.

It's easy to get mired into the day-to-day concerns of life. The best thing anyone ever said to me, when I was trying (and failing) to potty train my youngest son, was, "Relax. He WILL be potty trained by the time he's 26." I was getting all caught up in the current issue and failing to see the big picture. Ironically, my being tense was actually what interfered. As soon as I stopped stressing, the child did fine.

It's not that we shouldn't prepare for things ... the lilies of the field DO die off in winter, after all ... just not let lack of knowledge paralyze us. Educate yourself and if there are no new facts, let it go and wait to see what happens.

The stock market is a big case in point. It nearly KILLED me to leave my money alone, but it does look like things are getting a little better. I was terribly worried it would all be gone, but there was nothing I could do about it and I had to just wait and see what happened. I hope the economy continues to improve ... and I'm pretty sure it will, despite many doomsayers.

I think one of the only fears I have left is the ignorance of others. It is no longer important to me that I "win" an argument, simply important that I engage in a discussion and try to determine where the other person is coming from so I can find common ground. For that reason, I'd say I'm definitely fearful of the people represented by some here at Gather who must be right even in the face of factual evidence to the contrary of what they believe.

If a person is very set in their ways they may go to extremes and present untruths to justify their viewpoint, some do it intentionally. Either way they are not open to reaching a common ground.

And the thing that is so frustrating about that, Sunaura, is that I am honestly interested in how they have come to the conclusions they have, because they may actually have a couple of valid points, but it's impossible to carry on a civil debate or discussion with someone whose only answer to a question is a catch phrase from FOX or radio show personalities, not verifiable information.

I am afraid of the angry, negative mood prevailing in our country, fomented by the you-know- who. America succeeds when the mood is positive! We certainly do not have a positive attitude now. We have many who actually want our President to fail along with all his initiatives. We have more loud anger, negativity, prejudice , nastiness, blatant lies, subterfuge, disagreement than at any time in my lifetime. Indeed, I am afraid.

A wise woman's son once told me that fear is actually "false evidence appearing real" and is so because while swept under the rug being supposed about, you miss knowing about it and stay in fear of it; however no longer fearing it becomes more simple when it has been faced with courage taken out from the rug and faced with scrutiny and intellect . . .

The only thing that I am truly afraid of is dying alone. I am not afraid to die. On the contrary. Death does not scare me. We are all born to die. It is a fact of life. I just want someone with me to help me pass into whatever lies ahead of me in this life.

Thanks for the well wishes. I feel so much better today. I refuse to let a little flu virus get me down. Tylenol and over the counter cold medicine works fine.

I don't particularly care for thrill rides, life itself is one big roller coaster.

I am glad you are feeling better. People get flu shots every year because the immunity is temporary, the more they take the more mercury and 'stuff' builds up in the body defeating the purpose. When they use live viruses they are just spreading it around.

I don't like being home alone at night, hubby is just now going to work.
