Hi, everyone -- I do some side projects in my free time (for my own amusement, and very occasionally for money), and one of them has me contemplating what a Palin administration would have been like had McCain successfully been elected as president, and if she had assumed command of the United States somewhere in late 2009 to 2010 (the 'heartbeat away from the presidency' concern that some of her critics had.)
So, Republican or Democrat, what do you think would happen if McCain had been allowed to set up the new cabinet, and if Palin had taken command of the White House? Good ideas, bad ideas, all sorts of ideas are welcome. Whether it's regarding the economy, international relations, counterterrorism, health care reform, corruption reform, or any other hotbutton issue, what do you think might she focus on as a leader?

The markers that called her the Alaska Disasta, and Bush in a Skirt were not far off the mark. Always reminded me of Nero Fiddling while Rome burned to the ground.
Thanks to all Saints and Sinners who voted for change. We won't ever have to find out.
Never.

Thanks for posting.
It would have been a disaster and someone would have had to gone to prison for assassinating her!
I have written her, and signed many petitions to stop aerial hunting, if you can call the what these cowards do hunting, from their helicopters, we can maybe stop the killing of this wonderful animal.. Especially since we just spent millions to save them.. For those who are interested in the money trail... No, they do not kill millions of dollars of stock. I even wrote an article about a wolf family. If she feels this is humane, God only knows what would have happened to us. By the way, I am from the Ozarks, and I have hunted for FOOD, and I would not dream of doing that. You should see the videos on many Wolf sights. She even has it on her site. DISgusting.. Ellen B
Elsie, seeing you say that the PROBLEM is we've become a tolerant country makes me want to cry. We aren't tolerant enough. We should embrace our brothers and sisters of all walks of life.
Well, if it is a roleplaying game, then one of two things happened:
1. The Great Old Ones rose up from their slumber, and drove the entire population mad. Palin is revealed to have actually been a priestess of the great Chutulu. Madness reigns once and for all. Everyone loses sanity points. The end.
2. The Mists of Ravenloft came and took her. It isn't really America, but a domain in Ravenloft that resembles America. She's a domain Lord and launches a war against Strahd. Everyone fails their horror checks. Game over.
Or is this a World of Darkness campaign? She's actually a Ventrue pawn? (Or more likely, a closet Setite...)
um, is my gamer geekiness coming out?

This comment here sort of struck a nerve with me. I couldn't disagree more and if this what people think of the leaders they are voting into office then why even go to the polls at all.
As for your question no I don't think her being president in the future would be a positive thing. I don't know what is so great about what she has done for Alaska. I am all for a strong woman in a position of power but this woman is not equipped for that particular position. I am not denying her strong points nor do I think it is so awful if we have a leader of high morals in office, although morals are truly subjective and it is always interesting to watch others disect another's morals when they conflict with their own. I also agree her reign, if that is what we want to call it, would set minorities back even further. If she were to have taken office as president today I think her focus would be on abortion and religion related issues. These are important issues but they are not at all what is at the forefront of everyone's radar. The economy is and she is not equipped at all to deal with that kind of a crisis and the American people as a whole saw that.
It's not her high moral stds that people have a problem with, it's her hypocritical way of presenting them.
Abstinance only education? How'd that work out for her family?
She exagerated or outright lied about every accomplishment. Sold the airplane on eBay? Nope.
Gave a tax cut to Alaskans? Sure, after extracting so much tax from oil producers that every Alaskan gets money FROM the state.
Stopped the "bridge to nowhere"? Sure, after supporting it until it became such a political liability.
The woman has no skills other than self-promoting public relations...and that "poise" that lets her ramble on long after the thought has vanished.
Like Bush, she would have turned over real authority to a Rasputin like Cheney, and we'd be in a disastrous war with Iran while still trying to extract ourselves from Iraq and Afghanistan.
I doubt she'd be so cavalier about trillion dollar annual deficits as the Obama seems to be. During the election the Dems could quite rightly point to the Repub record recently and say it was horrible. Now that they are in charge those complaints seem to have been stifled.
I just wanted to say I am finally going through what is now under 5,300 pieces of gather new mail that is in my inbox on here. So with that in mind I have finally come to a piece of mail that was addressed to me in regards this article submission you have created to share with the gather community. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your piece with us here at gather. :o)
And I hope you have a Happy New Year... in 2009 :o)
It is becoming known that it was she who delayed the arrest of her grandchild's paternal granny until after the election. The Branchflower report clearly shows she violated her State Ethics Act during Troopergate. During the campaign she was dishonest about everything from her support of the Bridge to Nowhere to having sold the governor's jet on eBay. She didn't visit Ireland, she had a fueling stopover there. She hasn't even been honest about her daughter's fiancee's high school status and electrical apprenticeship. He miraculously jumped to the head of a 100-person line to become an apprentice that requires a high school diploma, which he doesn't have. The list is lengthy; let's just say she is no paragon for truth and ethics.
Personally, I believe she would have dumbed down government to the point of making Quayle seem like Einstein. Highlights would have included constant abuse of power, a total disregard for the environment, and setting women's rights back at least 40 years.
Actually, you're not far off from the plot -- supernatural beings named Guardians attempt to take over control of the world, co-opting major world leaders to further their goal to open a gate to hell dimensions, effectively ending the world as we know it. During her bid for re-election, she announces her endorsement from them and officially switches to their political party, at which point the Republicans accuse the Guardians of being secret liberals.
If it's any consolation to the people who wrote angry paragraphs that didn't really give any answers, in this campaign world, Barack Obama, after losing the election, continued to work to enact change in this country until he was murdered in a hail of gunfire under mysterious circumstances.
Here's what I'm running with:
Before McCain's death, he likely slashed the budgets on important budgets for social services, health care reform, alternative energy, and the like, instead focusing most of his money on homeland security and defense efforts. Since the Guardians also focused their efforts along these lines -- offering their services to law enforcement agencies, in particular -- this gave them support... and funding. After McCain's death by 'heart attack', Palin stepped up to assume the role of presidency, focusing on isolationism, cutting outreach programs, and generally letting the Guardians gain further footholds in foreign climes.
Thanks, guys!
I believe she's the number one reason that McCain lost the election. Not that I'm a big supporter of his or anything..
But, she is not a presidential type. I think that she would make a great part of the senate though and stick to what she knows best.
seriously tried to get our government in a better financial standing. It's way to hard though with everyone holding their hands out asking for something. I would love to
see her try to help our country.
I find it funny that she get the "her makeup and wardrobe" comment when the same people wouldn't have given that comment if it were a poll about Hillary's whitehouse. Palin is treated as a "housewife" and H. Clinton is teated as a genderless politician --- yeah, there's tolerance for ya.
I honestly don't think the president is all that powerful.
In my opinion Sarah Palin is nothing more than an average housewife who decided to run for mayor of a small town. Then she ran for governor and we all know what happened next. She has no real political experience and it would be a disaster if she were to end up in the White House.

And, not pretending you didn't know it was a mistake, moving on as if you didn't make a mistake, then trying (and in many cases succeeding) in convincing others it may not ever even have happened and was not even MY mistake even if it did happen. +sigh+
Er... Oh, he's my mentor. Oh, that's not the mentor I knew. Oh, I didn't hear those things. I never knew. Hannity is making too much of this. The right is cherry picking and looping one comment. Gee ... mmmm... I never heard that before. I'll never leave him. I'll never leave that church. But, then again .... seems like it's getting politically too hot to keep trying to defend him so guess I have to leave him in the dust ... publically. And anyway, I never listened to him and never really knew him other than as the leader of the church, that is if I knew him at all. What was his name again?
Substitute any subject for church or mentor and this is how it goes. You can almost predict what and how he will behave. First, it didn't happen. Second, if it did happen I didn't know. Third, I'm sure I never heard anything like it. Fourth, there's proof? Gee, ummm, we wern't really that close. Um .... we actually were only nodding acquaintances. Well, actually I never really knew he even lived in the same state. What was his name again?
What makes the BIG difference is learning from past mistakes and NOT making the same ones over and over and over.
