A Child's Prayer - Nifty-Fifty - Week 4 Prompt

This promtp made me remember a small prayer taught to me when I was just a child,

and I taught it to my kids too, just added the last two lines,

Now I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my Soul to keep

If I should die before I wake

I pray the Lord my Soul to take

God Bless Mommy and Daddy

And all the little children of the world

Lord, Please let there be Peace

Amen

I was also taught this as a child. It's beauty is in the sheer innocence and trusting love when a child says these words. Maybe adults should say these words too.

I loved this prayer though I find it a bit creepy now. I used to say it every night. Though my parents only taught me the first 4 lines.

My children know this prayer, I did not know this prayer till I was older so I am glad that we taught our children it at a early age.

I have taught my daughter the same prayer with different additions to it too! And my Mom taught it to me.....a wonderful legacy to pass on!

I remember that one....and I looked it up on Wikipedia just now. It is a prayer from the 18th century. There are some nice variations listed.

Thank you, Elsie...for reminding me of the childhood prayer I used to say with my Mother when my father was in flight training for the US Army Air Force during WWII. Except that I had my own ending to it. I was overheard saying, "God bless Mommy. God bless Daddy. And God bless the suitcases."

How wonderful it would be to have peace. And no more bad feelings between anyone.

I grew up with this prayer as well. Your last two lines make a fine finish. I want to add, no matter who wins the election:

God bless our president, our nation, and all if its people.

Funny, I've returned to this prayer before falling asleep. It's a good way to include requests for blessings for all whom I've promised to pray that day and for those whom I pray all of the time.
