A new confidential report by the International Red Cross, "ICRC Report on the Treatment of Fourteen 'High Value Detainees' in CIA Custody," details specific techniques of torture used against detainees. The following techniques are delineated in the report: Continuous solitary confinement, suffocation by water (waterboarding), prolonged stress standing, beatings by use of a collar, beating and kicking, confinement in a box, prolonged nudity, sleep deprivation and use of loud music, exposure to cold temperature/water, prolonged use of handcuffs and shackles, threats, forced shaving, and deprivation/restricted provision of solid food.
These practices were carried out in our name as American citizens.
I have written to the Obama administration, here:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/
The Obama administration has no option. They absolutely must pursue investigations, and possible prosecutions of war crimes by Bush administration officials.
I urge ALL American citizens to write the White House and demand investigations.

Well done.
I understand Chucks concerns. But "accountability" must mean something, otherwise the system will be just too cynical to be worth anything (if it's not already beyond that tipping point).
The courts in Spain have already started an investigation of human rights abuses of the legal "minds" behind the Bush administration's policies and actions. It's an important beginning.
For Obama, it's not yet been 100 days... He's been left (we have been left) a big mess! The investigations by congress need to be continued and expanded and come to further fruition. Investigating, debating, fighting, deal-making, and ending with a slap on the wrist would be very harmful... it needs to be done right, as Barbra Boxer indicated last year...
[Steve, in other news, quick update: nothing yet... tests turned out good though... back to original plan... likely tomorrow or day after... ]
Sure there is - the "time" issue is a function of the lazy cable "news" media, which cannot seem to sensationalize more than one train of thought at a time.
David: "...'accountability' must mean something...."
Yep. No one is above the law. It's part of what Chuck refers to as "to do FOR us" - as in restore credibility.
Thanks for the update, David.
My personal desire is that the current administration focus on what it needs to do to "restore credibility,' get us out of this "big mess," and go about the job of governing this country. The future is becoming the present every day, and there is much work to be done just to fill the hole left behind...but we can't lose sight of the mountain still in our path.
I believe in waterboarding. I believe in interrogation. The people that our troops were fighting were brutal monsters who had no honor.
Its easy to point fingers after the fact. The easiest fact to make - we havent had a single attack on America since 9/11. Interrogation gets info to us that we need to protect ourselves. WAR is WAR. it isnt pretty - never was.

Someone has come forward with this rock solid information, ignoring it is not an option.
Then you are a sympathizer with war criminals - that is, if you're not one yourself.
Michael: "The people that our troops were fighting were brutal monsters who had no honor."
So you propose becoming just like them. That will solve it. Still, it's a crime. Perpetrators are criminals.
Michael: "WAR is WAR. it isnt pretty - never was."
Does the Geneva Convention mean anything to you? No, of course it doesn't.
Yes. The journalist, to whom this information was leaked, acknowledged that. Yet, he also noted that the source believed this information to be so compelling that the judgement was made to leak it.
Ape: "Someone has come forward with this rock solid information, ignoring it is not an option."
I agree. Please let the WH know of your opinion on this @ the link above. Thanks.
McCain: Japanese Hanged For Waterboarding
The rules only change when war criminals are changing them at will.
"I believe in waterboarding. I believe in interrogation. "
I don't have any trouble whatsoever believing that you would be in favor of such unAmerican tactics, that have been proven to not only be utterly useless in terms of acquiring valued information, but which also have been proven to put our own soldiers at great risk. Totally believable that a lowlife POS, dickless little worm such as yourself, who has undoubtedly never wore a military uniform in his pathetic life, would support such behavior.
"The people that our troops were fighting were brutal monsters who had no honor. "
You're an idiot. Why must you keep proving it by continuing to say idiotic things?
"The easiest fact to make - we havent had a single attack on America since 9/11. "
Liar. We were attacked several times with anthrax. Check your facts, little boy.
"Interrogation gets info to us that we need to protect ourselves."
Interrogation can, but torture does not. It has been proven to be utterly ineffective as a means of obtaining useful information.
"WAR is WAR. it isnt pretty - never was."
Oh please. Do share you vast experience on this subject. Can't wait to hear about how heroically you served.
mikey admits what we have known for a very long time, that his kind have no use for the rule of law and are basically cowards that believe any lie a repugnicon may utter.
mikey probably couldn't get in the boy scouts let alone the military.
