Obama Selling Media Spots - Something the Big Media Outfits Probably Won't Tell
by Marilyn Mackenzie
It's absurd that Obama is planning a huge party - his celebration for winning the Presidential election. Boy, isn't he confident? Wonder how he'll feel for spending all the money if he doesn't win?
From all indications, it will be even more arrogant than the Greek columns of the Democratic convention. But if you do a Google search about Obama's planned party you get no more information than it will be held at Grant Park. That and that Grant Park hosted a papal visit in 1979 and a Chicago Bulls NBA championship celebration in 1991. One article mentions that when Grant Park once hosted a Friday afternoon papal mass in 1979 featuring Pope John Paul II it attracted hundreds of thousands of worshipers. I guess that Obama figures he'll have that many people wanting to celebrate with him.
Rumor has it that he's sparing no cost. But don't worry. He's making up some of that cost by charging the media.
Yes, you read that right. He's charging the media.
From an email from OneNewsNow.com this morning:
Media analyst Bob Knight is questioning the Obama campaign's decision to sell Chicago election night coverage packages to news outlets.
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet notes the Obama campaign is planning to charge reporters $935 for a package that includes access to a heated file tent, power, cable TV, Internet, and food. The cheapest place a reporter could stand on a riser with a view is $880. Members of the media will also be charged $300 for an unlimited long distance phone line and $275 for high-speed wired Internet.
According to Sweet, "This is an outrageous pay-to-play plan that caters to national elite outlets with deep pockets." Bob Knight, director of the Culture and Media Institute, agrees.
"Some folks might feel that this shows that Obama doesn't believe in a free press, but one he would charge for," he says, chuckling. "Really, it's kind of funny because the media have done so much to boost his candidacy that you'd think the least he could do is give them a few hors d'oeuvres on the night of his coronation, if he is elected."To read the whole article, click here: Obama selling election spots to media
There's no doubt that the big media outfits will grumble but pay to get in. Sadly, it leaves the small and independent media sources out that cannot afford such insanity.
This, to me, shows much about Obama and his character. Perhaps even moreso than his past associations.

What is the difference in the the RNC buying her wardrobe or the DNC paying for Obama's needs. It is the parties money to spend as they choose on their campaign.
I suppose McCain is planning on watching election results from his fallout shelter, right?
What an ignorant statement. Why do you want to look moronic?
I know the press would prefer to be treated like the guests of honor but they are there for their own interests not the interests of the Parties they are covering. If they don't like paying they don't have to cover the event.
(Of course if it were me I would want the coverage if I expected to win and would not if I expected to lose. But that's just me. :-)
It bothers me more that Obama gave his word about where his funding would come from, then went back on his word and therefore has lots more money to spend on ads. That bothers me. A man should stand on his word.
More ignorance.
Well, at least Obama did not cheat on wife #1 after she had a disfiguring accident.
Obama did not call wife #2 a cunt in public either.
Of course not, I donated to Obama.
BTW, since McCain is taking public money for his campaign, aren't there rules as to how the money can be spent?
Is it moral to clothe the family of a candidate?
The RNC bought her and her family some clothes, big deal!! At least those clothes will be donated to needy families. What good did Obama's pillars do?

I wonder why he is excluding the smaller news agencies this way - doesn't sound good for his "image" not that I care but it is stupid. Now I understand why Obamas' @@#*! was on tv saying her dress was only $150 wondered where that came in

the only ones who look moronic are those voting FOR Obama, if the guy can't make up his mind and vote anything besides "PRESENT" I certainly DON'T want him as my president, nor his unAmerican wife who is NOT proud of her country (nor do I think HE is)- even IF I liked HIM I would not vote for him just to keep HER out of the white house. Honestly I don't think either of them are fit for the whitehouse neither are proud of their country at least SHE came right out and said it - HE ~just~ didn't salute the flag or even stand at attention.
I rather not comment on this.
I think $900 for a front row ticket, plus food, camera access, and a tent to Obama's watching party is a good deal. I could sell one good photograph to AP for thousands and thousands of dollars.
That smells like capitalism to me... ..
If we made a list of all politicians who did this, the list would be long indeed; however we are talking about only 2 politicians, John McCain and Barack Obama.
McCain has proven he has no morals, so why is he supported by so many 'religious' folks?
She's the governor of Alaska for heavens sake. She didn't have any trouble finding something to wear to her Vogue photo shoot last February.
As far as McCain not having any morals, I totally disagree and look at someone like Obama who associates with known terrorists and organizations like ACORN.
I hope he never gets to have his big party. But if he wins he will be ready.
Obama is paying for it so the taxpayers don't have to foot the bill.
If Joe the plumber is buying his own clothes and taking care of himself, then Sarah Palin should do the same. Let's call this what it is on the McCain/ Palin team, along with the rest of the GOP- hypocrisy.
