CNN, Fox News, AP and others all say they have confirmed that Barack Obama has selected Joe Biden as his Vice-Presidential running mate (see below for bio).
UPDATE: The Obama campaign web site has now confirmed that Barack Obama has selected Joe Biden to be his running mate.
From the Joe Biden Senate web site is the following biographical information.

(Sorry, I'm a bit paranoid after 2000)
I wouldn't count on this as accurate information. Not on his website and I agree with Sandy...doesn't feel correct.
Two of the "presumed" picks announced that they had received calls telling them they were not chosen. As far as Obama and Caroline Kennedy have said, they didn't release the names of the people on the list. This is all projected, or intercepted unethically.
If we want to hold the media accountable, I think we have to do the same ourselves. Maybe I'm projecting my ''want to hold the media accountable" onto everyone when I shouldn't be. If so, I apologize.
I am disappointed, however, that people (not just you, David) have decided to post this information knowing that it is not what Barack Obama would want, and that "three or more sources" have printed all sorts of trash about him, multiple times already. I just think he deserves more respect from us.
I did enjoy CNN while I was in Rome earlier this year.
It's official.
I have nothing but respect for Biden, and I think maybe this will be good for his career, in terms of getting some visibility. After being VP Biden will be ready for President, I hope. I am not sure what to think about Obama. I want to think the best but I just expected better from Obama so far.
I definitely agree that Biden will not run a secret government and hopefully will shine a light onto what Cheney was doing for posterity and all to see, since impeachment is not going to happen in time.
Hoping It's Biden
> Biden’s the one. The only question is whether Obama
> was wise and self-aware enough to know that.
I'm disappointed that the press jumped the gun, (and I'd fire the guy who leaked it) but I'm very happy about the choice. Good team.
And team is a good word for Obama's philosophy. No one does anything alone or by not listening to anyone but those who agree with you. Presidents represent all Americans, not just the half that voted for them. Obama knows this.
"Fox News, reporting on the vice presidential stakeout at Biden's home in Delaware, gives us a little taste of this:
Biden was initially playful with reporters, feeding them coffee and bagels Wednesday while acting cagey about whether he's being considered by Obama.
But on Thursday he snapped at a reporter who was in a car apparently too close to his property.
'Get the car off my grass, pal,' he said. 'Now.'
Biden brought no food to reporters.
Won't the vice presidential debate be fun if Biden is the nominee?"
George Stephanopoulos asked Biden and said, "You were asked is he ready. You said 'I think he can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."
Political Radar" Blog, 8/2/07, Joe Biden lashed out at Obama saying, "Having talking points on foreign policy doesn't get you there."
I guess he doesnt care as long as he gets to be vp.
It is a good choice Obama made though. If elected at least someone in the white house will know what is going on.
But I'm sure that particular bon mot will be a topic of discussion for the rest of the campaign.
In another bit of irony, it's highly possible that Colin Powell will vote for Barack Obama this election. He hasn't committed either way but says that he is considering all his options. That in itself gives a hint at how he felt about the Bush Administration policies.
That's exactly what Obama/Biden is trying to change.
If anyone here listens to right wing radio at this point they have Obama where the want him, it is just a question of how loud they can up the volume. There is all rumor, innuendo and lies and it is shameless.
Having right wing radio stations throughout the country that broadcast commercials and editorial opinions that are pro-right, is not news, or any kind of public service, and all of these stations should their FCC license revoked unless they want to start conforming to the fairness doctrine.
I am sick of the right wing calling Barack Obama and the Democrats communists and such while they broadcast this kind of lying propaganda like Pravda!
As for right wing radio, they like to hear themselves talk. I suspect they had scripts written up against anyone Obama could have picked. Still, they have influence over a large part of the country. So it will come down to how many people fall for the same old lines in the face of what Bush has done the last 8 years.
Change is hard. The status quo likes to protect its turf.
I suppose we'll hear from Biden over the next few days why he took the job.
Do you always allow your empty head to be used for echoing
Republican talking points? Maybe it feels better than having
nothing in there at all, huh?
Biden is going to be able to deconstruct everything the
Republicans say and smack them in the faces with it while
probably making everyone laugh and educating them at
the same time. Biden has extraordinary talent and
communicative ability.
And what is bigotted about making a comment everyone can
see for themselves. It was a bad joke, at lesat he has a
sense of humor, and he is not joking about starting WWIII
as McCain did with his bomb Iran song ... and at least he
does not sing in public.
Iraq is not going to hold together without US troops so
partitioning makes sense, and it was not just Biden
who made that suggestion, it was passed bipartisanly
by the Senate.
Now let's compare that with your puppetteer who did
not make a move to surge troops into Iraq for 3 years
while men died, and money got distributed to his
buddies.
There is no civil in Iraq, it was created by the British to be
deliberately unstable with a strong man in charge.
Biden had the intelligence, the creativity and the politica
ability to get buy ion from both sides on his plan, but you
probably didn't realize that.
I mean Mickey, you are truly despicable, at least
make sense.
Who cares if Biden said what we all know about 7/11's?
It would still be a good idead to partition Iraq,
But, on the whole, Biden's experience would seem to be the best fit with Obama, if he can be careful about his remarks in public.
Let me recommend the book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. A proven method for developing social and leadership skills.
I would not seek to emulate them.
There are few people that deserve a well-earned disdain, Mickey
happens to be one of them, Rich Kaye is another, and there are
some more crazies on Gather. I don't go seeking them out
and rarely bother interacting with them.
It seems interesting to me that most of what these people
do is seek out Democratic conversation and then try to
disrupt them with BS.
And if you think Mickey's points are valid you ought
to try keeping up with reality, this is a poltical race, not a
romance. But if you're looking for warts, try John McCain.
but explain to me the "racial slur". Can you do that for me
please?
Also if it is not too much trouble, and by the way both you
and Mickey have it wrong about partititioning.
Biden suggested a weak federal government with 3
states in order to promote stability and sharing of oil
revenue.
It boggles my mind how both you be so loud and
ignorant about this? But if your model of well-
informed is John McCain that explains a lot.
I mean really, let's be substantive.
Are you kidding me ... a major American Presidential
candidate goes to Iraq to show his leadership ability,
and when he is trying to say something Presidential
has to be corrected by Joe Leiberman, a Democrat,
who explained the differencee between Sunni and
Shia ... I'll bet you want to forget that!
straws to change the issue away from McCain's
large "dodder" factor as a major issue I'm sure
they will not hesitate to try to make something
out of Biden's non-attribution of Neil Kinnock's
speech that he used. So what? I don't give
a damn at the time, or now.
be business owners, Dunkin' Donuts, or 7/11 or whatever.
How is that racist, except maybe what you said?
It is just a fact that Mexicans in California do a lot of
yard work, Korean's run a lot of liquor stores, and
Indians run 7/11's ... it is simply not racism to make
an silly comment about it, it is just a silly comment.
That is why it didn't go anywhere at the time, and
it will not go anywhere now. What is the big deal
is that Republicans are seeming so rude and stupid
as to keep digging fluff like this up and throwing it
in the air and saying - LOOK!
Who cares ... I never knew so many Republicans were
so sensitive the Indian's feelings. That's nice of you
all.
The surge is being lamely credited to McCain by Bush/Cheney
in hopes of giving the old guy some credit and support.
I don't need to delete any post of yours Kay, I just do not
feel like typing the same things over and over since you
keep mentioning them in different articles like they are
new or you have not been answered.
It's a waste of time and when you do it in my articles
I don't need to bother with it.
and the 63 year old Biden is more curmudgeonly than the 72 year old McCain.
It is no surprise that Republicans cannot tell the difference between Sunni and Shia then.
Why can't Republicans seem to come up with a candidate that can talk without someone telling him what to say?
campaigner her heart out, along with Bill?
Kay you are really wasting my time here, I have
humbled you yet again ... it's always fun. Have a good one.
And I'm sure the Obama campaign has already thought through responses to all the expected attacks, which really shouldn't be too hard because the McCain campaign has been quite predictable (not McCain himself, however, since he seems to gets confused occasionally).
Meanwhile the American people wonder whether they have been forgotten.
humbled you yet again ... it's always fun. Have a good one. "
Running away Bruce? Gosh, was it something I said? Perhaps it was that "leaving Iraq with honor" as result of the McCain military surge. Yes, I believe that was it.
I will submit to you that Obama and his "guess who will be my VP text game", has resulted in the American people being forgotten. Obama needs to learn that not everything has to be a big "media" event.
