There has been a lot of talk from Democrats about Gas Prices and Oil Prices. They want to tax the oil companies and force them to produce more oil. That leaves a problem we still would not have enough gas as there are not enough refinearies. Democrats have fought them as well as other good alternatives, President Bush said this yesterday, "Those who are screaming the loudest for increased production from Saudi Arabia are the very same people who are fighting the fiercest against domestic exploration, against the development of nuclear power and against expanding refining capacity,"
We also have added ethenol to our gas which makes it tougher to refine and cost more because we subsidize the corn production. We should also limit speculation in these markets as they are vital to our national economy. But, we will not get any of these solutions as long as the Democrats that are in charge want to appease too many groups and increase taxes while refusing to fix any of the problems facing the country.

Not to mention use of ethanol is driving beef prices up even higher.
The real future won't be in hydrogen or in batteries. The biggest potential is in advanced capacitors that can hold a charge like a battery but can fully refill in the same time it takes to fill up an SUV with gas. Electricity stations could be as popular as gas stations allowing fully electric vehicles to recharge quickly and get back on the road.
How is raising taxes on oil companies going to force them to produce more oil? Seems to me it would have a opposite effect.
Ethonol, Takes more energy to make than they get out of it.
There is enough oil in Alaska alone to last this nation for all their oil needs and wants for somewhere around 400 years and most of it in wells that are capped. If the news was to get published it would be the largest oil reserve in the entire world but our government keeps it under wraps.
The 100-200 a barrel thing is a farce from the word go. We only import 15% of our oil from the middle east anyway as is.
You really show your lack of knowlege with that statement. The church of Bush hate loves to blame Bush for everything, but that is not the case.
The quickest way to cheaper gas is build more refinanaries, and explore for more oil.
But Democrats dont want that
The price of gas has NOTHING to do with the number of refineries or ANWAR or the cooperation of the Saudis. It has to do with the mismanagement of the economy by the Bush Admin to benefit domestic oil producers and RNC patrons. For the last 2 years the Kuwati, Saudi, Qutari oil ministers have repeated said there is no supply or capacity shortage. It is a failure regulatory control by Bush and the Repubs. Since Bush took office he has used the office of Pres to manipulate the market to benefit the energy industry domestically and internationally and to use the high cost of energy to further diminish the middle class. NOT FOR LONG. The price of oil affects EVERY facet of life across the globe and the Bush Admin has used it from the worst of domestic and political motive. MDP there is only ONE statement in your post true: "But Democrats dont want that." When the Dems gain the Pres and strengthen the their control over the House and Senate they will change this crimmial corruption of American security and welfare.

Along with this, the two biggest factors in oil and gas prices are the disastrous and illegal occupation, as well as our overall hyper-aggressive, militaristic stance throughout the middle east, and the massive republiCON debt that has driven down the value of our dollar.
"The quickest way to cheaper gas is build more refinanaries, and explore for more oil."
Quick? Oil exploration and extrapolation can take decades, and I'm quite certain that a new refinery would take at LEAST several years to come on line and have a real impact of any kind.
What about conservation? Wouldn't that be a smidgen quicker? What would happen if there were suddenly a mandate for all government civilian vehicles to be either hybrid, hydrogen-powered, or electric? What if large subsidies and tax breaks were suddenly offered to any company that installed either wind, geothermal, or solar equipment, to generate power for their buildings? Do you think that MAYBE, just MAYBE those things might have a bit quicker impact that drilling for oil and building refineries?
The best thing to do is to jump up and down and shout, that is to jump up and down and shout very loud. Or just tax the stuff more, then the demand will go into something else, like power from water.
How was Exxon Mobil able to make record profits last quarter? 11 billion.
Oil prices quadrupled, making their percentage of profit a larger number. They're still making the same percentage, but the price of the product has risen dramatically. Interestingly enough, their profits haven't quadrupled, though they have grown as the oil price has increased. That, at least partially, can be attributed to their own higher overhead, from increaed oil prices.
There are many factors influencing oil prices, but the refining capacity is a huge factor in our gas prices. We definitely need to expand it, here at home. However, since the US government has restricted new refinery construction, the Oil companies are building these refineries overseas, off the coast of Africa. Sad but true.
It's also good to see the Saudi's stacking up dollars as they have nothing else to do.
If/when this new windfall profit tax goes through, will the reaction be as bad as the 70s or even worse?
