Did Obama plagiarize? The Video says yes

Sen. Barack Obama was caught in copying a speech From Gov. Patrick. The Obama camp says they share style, etc. The Video shows it was rearranged but the same words. Sen. Joe Biden's 1988 campaign was stopped by a simiar charge. Will History repeat itself?

Sorry, it is very close but both speakers work together on speeches. I feel it just two like minds working together. It is not stealing if someone gives it to you.

This is plagarizing about as much as the rest of the candidates plagarizing Obama's Change message. Give it up. This is pretty silly. Ideas are ideas.....picking up on someone else's good ideas, or the words to describe them, are fine. Don't you wish the Republican candidates had actually been in touch enough with the American populace to come up with the "Change" theme themselves instead of "plagarizing" Obama?

Sheryl, I agree people try to steal messaging. It is one thing to talk about "change" and quite another to steal a speech almost word for word. He would be kicked out of your local university why give him a pass for the highest office in the land

Modern Day you are correct, no matter how you look at it. Stealing is stealing and if this were done on campus, the student would be dealt with harshly.

The latest in this silliness is the Clinton campaign trying to claim that Obama was trying to claim the "I have a dream" line as his own. What he was doing (yes, I saw the clip) was to point out that sometimes words are more than just words. Clinton is shooting herself in the foot if she keeps up such stupid attacks. It makes her look desperate and that is the last thing she needs no matter how she might feel at the moment.

Publius, I keep getting booted when I try to click on your video. I went to YouTube directly to find the clip and all I can find is Deval Patrick endorsing Obama and speaking with Obama at functions which is starting to give me the impression that whatever your problem is with this is kind of ridiculous.

sounds like the same speech to me. If it wasn't he would've have changed the words. It seems like the same speech. But it really doesn't matter much to me.

If a college campus finds it appalling to do this type of thing it makes sense to me that it is not acceptable from someone who is asking to be elected President!

Settle down kids. In college you are graded by your papers so copying is cheating. Everybody running for President has speech writers so based on all your logic everybody running for president is a plagiarist! Gov. Patrick specifically said in an interview this morning that he told Obama to use that line in response to Hillary's claim that talk is cheap. I realise that Clinton supporters are so desperate to salvage the sinking inevitable titanic but try to hold on to your integrity. Mudslinging is so cheap, even for the Clintons......

Actually Sheryl, newt Gingrich wrote a book about change before Obama was on the scene. maybe Obama plagiarized newt Gingrich?

90 percent of this is quotes from other people, and you could have accused Patrick of stealing it, just as much as Obama. Much ado about nothing, and these same quotes have probably been made by other politicians. I sure wouldn't say this was a stolen speech, or even a borrowed one. This speech could occur to anyone running for office, in fact it's a no brainer, for a black man running to cite these quotes. You just want to sling mud on the Democrat, Publicless. Admit it. McCain is dead before he even starts, get over it.

Their two brands of "change" though Jeffster, are entirely different, in tone and scope. Today, Gin-Grinch's book would be titled, "The Same Failed Crap, Over and Over again", not "Change".

Based on this speech it won't change what I think of this candidate. My vote will need to go to the one most likely to bring about a real change in America. And that just doesn't cover any of them.

If he writes anything like he speaks, Jeff, I think I'll knock it without raising my blood pressure, thank you very much. Today Huffington has an article on Clinton using one of her husbands speech's themes without attribution. Who cares. McClain sounds just like Bush everytime I listen to him, so WHAT? It's all speechwriters trying to sound presidential.

There is a big difference between broad themes and using the same words ron. Famous Quotes dont always have to be attriputed because everyone knows them but he took a whole segment of a speech and reordered it. Now, that is plagarism by any definition.

As far as this goes, I could just write a spam comment and put it on half of the articles on here and it would be accurate.

It matters not what the infraction, as long as it's been done by an approved person. If you haven't learned that yet, MDP, you never will. Tough to accept, but it's true...
If the right does it its wrong, if the left does it, it's the way to go. It reminds me of how up in arms the left was when a Republican spouting Christian values was 'accused" of indecent proposal in a mens room. Oh how they smiled and went on forever about it because they loved seeing a hypocrite get his due.
How quiet it's been since Spitzer, who was hard on crime and yes PROSTITUTES, was the utmost of hypocrites by using said prostitutes and indulging in criminal behavior for quite a while. He was not merely accused, there was proof so he had to admit it and resign.
I've stopped even trying to reason with them. It can't be done.
