The only change I made was not rolling these into balls. I didn't have the patience (read: energy), so mine came out more like peanut butter drops. Either way, these taste JUST like a Reese's cup and as such, are one of the most incredible desserts I've ever made. I have always had a fondness for Reese's.
Mixing the peanut butter and butter:
Stirring in the powdered sugar (this is where my energy waned. I sure wish I had that stand mixer!):
Finished "dollops":
Taking a nibble:

Sooo delicious! Thanks Sarah!

Thanks everyone! They were even better this morning for breakfast!
The only problem I'm having is the chocolate is so thick its making it hard to keep them on the skewer while I dip them. I thought about putting in a tablespoon of milk but I'm afraid that then the chocolate won't harden correctly. Anyone have any ideas?
How about trying a couple that way and letting me know... ;)
Try adding some choc or regular rice crispies to the mix.........or coconut chopped Xfine in the blender.
If you have a food processor it works better than a hand mixer. Another case of having a scoop handy makes this easy as pie!
Needless to say I had to start over with the chocolate. I ended up using a whole 12 ounce bag of chocolate chips and I spooned the chocolate over the balls of PB and then spun them around to remove the excess. It worked like a charm.
APE, I read in another recipe about adding parafin, that just sounds so icky. I don't want to ingest wax! Oh, and my hand mixer worked like a charm. I do have a food processor but its a small one and this mixture would never fit in it.
I did the spinning thing too. They didn't turn out very pretty (other than the three I photographed ;)
I would never use paraffin either. Gross!
My peanut butter thingys came out pretty, but it was a lot more work than just "dipping" them, that's for sure.
question: if a dessert recipe calls for shortening, can i sub oil, butter or margarine?...
cheers,gayle
G, I always use butter in place of shortening but I suppose it depends on the recipe. Does anyone buy shortening anymore??? I don't.
Thanks for sharing..now pass the candy!
