Can you believe I did this????

My husband and son could not believe I did this. If you have read my fried cucumbers recipe you know how my iron skillet is my best friend. Well, I sit it on the stove top and was getting ready to put my pumpkin squash in the over to bake and I knocked the iron skillet off. It fell on my rug in front of the stove but that didn’t seem to cushion it enough. This is what happened…..

 

 

 

 

 

Well, you can say it, leave it up to me to break an iron skillet. Mind you, my favorite, my best friend, my gravy pan, my “use for everything” pan. If anyone could break it, I did! I can’t even use it without the handle because it broke too far down and everything will run out of it.

I just wanted to show all of you that the “unbreakable " can be broken. LOL Really I wanted to give you a laugh for the day but yes! It is true I broke it. Thanks for reading and God bless you!

That is awful! There isn't anything that is totally unbreakable.

Years ago, when Melmac was the big thing, I dropped a coffee cup and it landed flat on the floor upside down. Split that cup right in half. Startled? You bet but it was so unexpected. ROFL!

I bet it was good and brittle from all those good foods you fixed! Sad to lose something that's become a "traditional" tool around the family...

I have never seen one break. My X-wife must have been holding back on me with them hits. Maybe she did care.
How terrible..I broke a pan lid today...lol

I wouldn't have thought that was possible! Seeing is believing...and that pan did break. Too bad, those well-seasoned cast iron skillets are the best and super glue won't help...lol...

They can be mended, if you know someone who does welding. Best ask about the solder/filler used to patch it, though--you wouldn't want them to use lead, for instance.

If you can find someone who does wrought-iron work, they might be able to repair it for you. (I have a couple that cracked on the bottom and were mended--the repair shows on the bottom--but that was well before they came to live with me. Almost all of mine are inherited, except for the waffle iron--bought that at a secondhand store; couldn't resist).

I would not have thought of that, Linda. What a great tip. And my nephew is a welder! I'll keep it in mind -- I have never had one crack. Is that a common problem? A lot of those old appliances are better than new...I had the BEST toaster that I got second-hand!

OMG I've never heard of someone breaking a cast iron pan. Wow. How upsetting. I adore mine too. I didn't know they could break. My grandmother had a pan that she had broken the handle on (it wasn't cast iron) and my mother inherited it. She makes the yearly holiday kugel in it. She uses a pot holder to hold the side of it so she can continue to use it. I think they also make handles that you can clip on. I've seen them somewhere.

Actually, the last time I priced a piece of cast iron at a secondhand/thrift store, the price was higher than if it was new....that black coating--the seasoned surface--can't be duplicated by any manufacturing process, no matter what they would like us to believe.

I'm surprised it broke!! and what is more I'm surprised you are laughing!! I'm happy that you can keep your spirits up about it ;) I would be crying so hard!! Though mine is not iron, I do have a pan that I do just about everything in and if I ever broke it, my heart would break right in half... I so feel for you!

Yeah, I know about things that are supposedly unbreakable. So sorry for your loss. Maybe you can find another one at a yard sale.

But I have never seen one that broke till now...
I have broken a lot of stuff that should not break but never an iron skillet..

I thought these last forever .....that's why I thought you always picked up a iron skillet to go after anyone

If it truely is your favorite skillet. See if you can get it welded. If you know a welder, they will probably do it for little or nothing. If not you can usually find them at garage sales and flee markets.

I didn' t think they could be broken, but Cast Iron is brittle. My brother and I used to find an old plow wing and breat it into small pierces and use it in out sling shots to kill rabbits and squirrels with.

I broke an iron skillet when I threw it at my ex husband. I missed him and it hit the floor and broke the same place yours did.
