This is the cake that Anna wants for her birthday on Sunday!
1 chocolate cake mix
1 (21 oz.) can of cherry pie filling, drained and chilled--reserve 1/2 cup of sauce
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Preheat oven to 350 and prepare and bake cake mix as directed, for 2 9-inch layers. Remove from pan to cool. In heavy sauce pan melt chocolate chips with Eagle Brand milk. Cook and stir until mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Cool for 20 minutes. Mix cherries with reserved sauce and almond extract. place 1 layer on cake plate spread half the chocolate mixture, then half the cherry mixture. Place the top layer and the rest of the chocolate then the rest of the cherries.
This is the best Black Forest Cake I have ever had.

Amazing how recipes morph..............
I know, now I'm obligated to dig up my moms cookbook and see how the real thing is done, I've only made it once and had people comment on it ten years later.
For one thing the serious ingredient lacking is what is called Cherry Brandy, dark cherries and no - definitely no cake mix.
But, I agree the recipe you gave sounds good, deceivingly so.:) It's just that I know better - TEN anyway:)
