(I'm republishing some of my poems)
"Mommy! Monster!" my baby wails
And into his room I quickly sail
I pick him up and hold him close
His monsters are real, I sadly know
He's scared of the dark; there's nothing I can do
Because he's been blind since he was two.
I wish tears could heal as mine fall on his face
And I could take him out of his scary place.
I hold him close, and gently rock
I wish his world I could unlock.
But there's nothing to do; and when he touches my face
I let him feel a smile, and talk of a magic place
He can imagine, there in his dark
Of magic animals and a candy park.
I thank the Lord everyday
For this little man he sent my way
My special baby, my special man
He'll teach me to see, the way he can.
