Sandra Greene has had a hard life. Her dad left when she was eight, she hasn't talked to her mom in months. She's working at a pizza parlor with some very annoying teenagers, and as far as guys are concerned, she's invisible.
But her life begins to change when her old friend gets married to a rich, attractive man. She doesn't understand how an average girl like her could get a guy like that, until she meets the Hunt Club at the wedding. The Hunt Club is a group of wealthy ladies that help average women like her get any man they want. They can even guarantee that he will propose to her within 5 months, as long as she follows their rules. They invite Sandra to join, and even though she has some doubts about their ability to get a guy interested in her, she joins.
Every woman that is single in the club gets her name in put into a drawing, and the one that they pick out of that gets her chance next.
Sandra soon gets her chance, and chooses to go after a gorgeous actor in a TV show she's watched for years. The Hunt Club ladies arrange everything for her; she changes her life, her looks, and learns about what interests him. She then meets her dream guy, and they seem to hit it off. Everything is going great, until the FBI steps in. They begin asking some questions about the Hunt Club. Who are the women in the Hunt Club? How can they guarantee that she'll get the man she chooses? What happens if the man they choose already has a girlfriend? What is the significance of the number 5 brooches that many of the Hunt Club members have?
The FBI seems to think that several recent murders may be linked to the Hunt Club somehow. But these women seem so nice, why would they have any reason to kill people? Sandra can't believe that the same people that are helping her get the man of her dreams would be killing people too. But she begins to ask herself, how far are they willing to go to get her the man of her dreams?
I enjoyed reading Good Man Hunting. It kept me turning pages and wanting to know what happens next. The book opens with Sandra sitting at the airport, when a couple of security guards find her and take her into a room with the FBI. So throughout the book, I kept trying to figure out if the FBI was right, and if so, why the Hunt Club ladies would be murdering people. When I got to the end, I found that I could never have expected the twists and turns that this book takes.
As a Christian, I was worried that this book may have some stuff that I wouldn't want to read. But for the most part, the book was clean. One of the Hunt Club's rules is "no sleeping together until the engagement." and although I would have preferred "no sleeping together until the wedding night" it's better than most other secular books. Although the rule about not sleeping together is more because statistics show their relationship will not go much farther if they did sleep together.
Of course, people slip up all the time. And the characters in this book are certainly no exception. There are a couple of times when this happens, but it isn't something that is glorified in the book. Which is very refreshing to me.
Overall, this was a wonderful read. And if you enjoy reading fiction, I would definitely recommend it.
